1 Thessalonians 5:8-11
“8 But let us, who are of the day, be sober, putting on the breastplate of faith and love; and for an helmet, the hope of salvation.
9 For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ,
10 Who died for us, that, whether we wake or sleep, we should live together with him.
11 Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.”

Matthew 24:42-44
“42 Watch therefore: for ye know not what hour your Lord doth come.
43 But know this, that if the goodman of the house had known in what watch the thief would come, he would have watched, and would not have suffered his house to be broken up.
44 Therefore be ye also ready: for in such an hour as ye think not the Son of man cometh.”

Revelation 20:4
“And I saw thrones, and they sat upon them, and judgment was given unto them: and I saw the souls of them that were beheaded for the witness of Jesus, and for the word of God, and which had not worshipped the beast, neither his image, neither had received his mark upon their foreheads, or in their hands; and they lived and reigned with Christ a thousand years.”

Memorial Day 2019
2 Timothy 2:3
“Thou therefore endure hardness, as a good soldier of Jesus Christ.”

Every year at this time in our country we honor our fallen military personnel. Like most of the holidays the true meaning and the roots of the day have been forgotten by most and for the most part are no longer taught to our younger generations. Today, to most, there is more excitement given to a three day weekend off work and/or the first outing with family and friends for the summer than there is given to the true reason for this day.
Stores and car dealerships inundate us with sales and fill our mail boxes and email boxes with enough circulars to fill a trash bin. There will be BBQs and grilling(and yes there is a difference) and parties of all sorts. Many with drunkenness followed by domestic violence.
As a student of history, I am forever reading articles and quotes by others on the founding of our nation and on how our forefathers put in place certain ideas and certain days for the generations to follow to remember where we came from and why. And for all this I am honored that my Heavenly Father has put in me the desire and the “want to” to defend our godly heritage. Yes, beyond popular belief in our society today, our nation was founded on Godly principles and morals.
Whether the politically correct crowd today likes it or not, the holiday we observe today had it's beginnings in the South after the War of Northern Aggression. One year after the surrender of the Southern armies widows and daughters of men who had died defending their homeland came together to honor their fallen heroes. Soon after, the idea took hold all across the South. And at some point it was adopted in the North and eventually the rest of the nation as well. In the early days their were church services, parades, speeches by prominent veterans, and family gatherings to honor those who gave their all for what they thought was the right cause. Though many today will not admit it, the fact is that even Memorial Day, as originally celebrated, was in honor of those who thought they were fighting and dying for Godly principles.
As our nation began to grow even more and became involved in more conflicts around the world, Memorial Day became the time of year people honored those who fought in every war our nation was involved. For the first two hundred years or so after our nation was founded it was common practice for our leaders and prominent citizens to give God the glory for the men and women who served in our military. We can read quotes and letters written by men such as George Washington, Robert E. Lee, Thomas Jackson, Alvin York, Audie Murphy, Dwight Eisenhower, to name a few, who spoke and wrote of their deep convictions to Christ and while in the heat of battle would remember the ways of our Lord taught to them by Godly parents or grandparents when they were younger.
Today, however, we hear our leaders mention very little of our Godly heritage. Most act as those they are ashamed of the fact that our very founding was based on the Bible. Yet they have no problem reaping or stealing the bounty God has bestowed upon our nation. They have tried to remove God from every aspect of our lives. Which, in all reality is an impossibility since God is Sovereign over all of His creation. Man cannot remove God from anything, but as is the example in the Old Testament with Israel, God can bring a nation who claims to be His to it's knees by an enemy they never thought about and bring chastisement upon His people for their failing to follow His commandments. We claim to be “One Nation Under God” but sin runs deep in the lives of many of those who claim the name of Christ. No, America is not the Israel of old. But when a nation forgets it's Godly founding and turns to the ways of sin and God's people follow along and refuse to stand on the truths in which our forefathers fought and died God will not set idly by while His name is blasphemed by those claiming to be His.
Where will you spend this day of remembrance? What events will you and your family and friends participate? Will our Lord be spoken of there? Will those who died defending our Godly heritage be remembered?
John 15:13 “Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.”

Colossians 2:10-15
“10And ye are complete in him, which is the head of all principality and power:
11 In whom also ye are circumcised with the circumcision made without hands, in putting off the body of the sins of the flesh by the circumcision of Christ:
12 Buried with him in baptism, wherein also ye are risen with him through the faith of the operation of God, who hath raised him from the dead.
13 And you, being dead in your sins and the uncircumcision of your flesh, hath he quickened together with him, having forgiven you all trespasses;
14 Blotting out the handwriting of ordinances that was against us, which was contrary to us, and took it out of the way, nailing it to his cross;
15 And having spoiled principalities and powers, he made a shew of them openly, triumphing over them in it.”

Psalm 16:7-11
“7 I will bless the Lord, who hath given me counsel: my reins also instruct me in the night seasons.
8 I have set the Lord always before me: because he is at my right hand, I shall not be moved.
9 Therefore my heart is glad, and my glory rejoiceth: my flesh also shall rest in hope.
10 For thou wilt not leave my soul in hell; neither wilt thou suffer thine Holy One to see corruption.
11 Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore.”

Isaiah 58:8-12
“8 Then shall thy light break forth as the morning, and thine health shall spring forth speedily: and thy righteousness shall go before thee; the glory of the Lord shall be thy reward.
9 Then shalt thou call, and the Lord shall answer; thou shalt cry, and he shall say, Here I am. If thou take away from the midst of thee the yoke, the putting forth of the finger, and speaking vanity;
10 And if thou draw out thy soul to the hungry, and satisfy the afflicted soul; then shall thy light rise in obscurity, and thy darkness be as the noon day:
11 And the Lord shall guide thee continually, and satisfy thy soul in drought, and make fat thy bones: and thou shalt be like a watered garden, and like a spring of water, whose waters fail not.
12 And they that shall be of thee shall build the old waste places: thou shalt raise up the foundations of many generations; and thou shalt be called, The repairer of the breach, The restorer of paths to dwell in.”

Though this was written about “the house of Jacob”(see verse 1), what a great example for us to follow today!!!

Hebrews 4:9-13
9 There remaineth therefore a rest to the people of God.
10 For he that is entered into his rest, he also hath ceased from his own works, as God did from his.
11 Let us labour therefore to enter into that rest, lest any man fall after the same example of unbelief.
12 For the word of God is quick, and powerful, and sharper than any twoedged sword, piercing even to the dividing asunder of soul and spirit, and of the joints and marrow, and is a discerner of the thoughts and intents of the heart.
13 Neither is there any creature that is not manifest in his sight: but all things are naked and opened unto the eyes of him with whom we have to do.”

1 Thessalonians 4:13-18
“13 But I would not have you to be ignorant, brethren, concerning them which are asleep, that ye sorrow not, even as others which have no hope.
14 For if we believe that Jesus died and rose again, even so them also which sleep in Jesus will God bring with him.
15 For this we say unto you by the word of the Lord, that we which are alive and remain unto the coming of the Lord shall not prevent them which are asleep.
16 For the Lord himself shall descend from heaven with a shout, with the voice of the archangel, and with the trump of God: and the dead in Christ shall rise first:
17 Then we which are alive and remain shall be caught up together with them in the clouds, to meet the Lord in the air: and so shall we ever be with the Lord.
18 Wherefore comfort one another with these words.”

Hebrews 5:5-10
5 So also Christ glorified not himself to be made an high priest; but he that said unto him, Thou art my Son, to day have I begotten thee.
6 As he saith also in another place, Thou art a priest for ever after the order of Melchisedec.
7 Who in the days of his flesh, when he had offered up prayers and supplications with strong crying and tears unto him that was able to save him from death, and was heard in that he feared;
8 Though he were a Son, yet learned he obedience by the things which he suffered;
9 And being made perfect, he became the author of eternal salvation unto all them that obey him;
10 Called of God an high priest after the order of Melchisedec.”

John 3:25-36
“25 Then there arose a question between some of John's disciples and the Jews about purifying.
26 And they came unto John, and said unto him, Rabbi, he that was with thee beyond Jordan, to whom thou barest witness, behold, the same baptizeth, and all men come to him.
27 John answered and said, A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from heaven.
28 Ye yourselves bear me witness, that I said, I am not the Christ, but that I am sent before him.
29 He that hath the bride is the bridegroom: but the friend of the bridegroom, which standeth and heareth him, rejoiceth greatly because of the bridegroom's voice: this my joy therefore is fulfilled.
30 He must increase, but I must decrease.
31 He that cometh from above is above all: he that is of the earth is earthly, and speaketh of the earth: he that cometh from heaven is above all.
32 And what he hath seen and heard, that he testifieth; and no man receiveth his testimony.
33 He that hath received his testimony hath set to his seal that God is true.
34 For he whom God hath sent speaketh the words of God: for God giveth not the Spirit by measure unto him.
35 The Father loveth the Son, and hath given all things into his hand.
36 He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

Proverbs 31:25-31
“25 Strength and honour are her clothing; and she shall rejoice in time to come.
26 She openeth her mouth with wisdom; and in her tongue is the law of kindness.
27 She looketh well to the ways of her household, and eateth not the bread of idleness.
28 Her children arise up, and call her blessed; her husband also, and he praiseth her.
29 Many daughters have done virtuously, but thou excellest them all.
30 Favour is deceitful, and beauty is vain: but a woman that feareth the Lord, she shall be praised.
31 Give her of the fruit of her hands; and let her own works praise her in the gates.”

To all the godly mothers out there, I pray our Lord gives you a blessed Mother's Day today.
To those who have a godly mother who is still living; I pray you will recognize her as such and honor her this day and everyday and thank God for her.
And to those whose mothers have gone on, I pray you will cherish the memories and follow her examples in the Lord.

Matthew 6:5-8
“5 And when thou prayest, thou shalt not be as the hypocrites are: for they love to pray standing in the synagogues and in the corners of the streets, that they may be seen of men. Verily I say unto you, They have their reward.
6 But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.
7 But when ye pray, use not vain repetitions, as the heathen do: for they think that they shall be heard for their much speaking.
8 Be not ye therefore like unto them: for your Father knoweth what things ye have need of, before ye ask him.”

3 For if a man think himself to be something, when he is nothing, he deceiveth himself.
