Mark 1:14-15

“14 Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God,

15 And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

Here we see the example set forth by our Lord and Savior of the preaching of the gospel. In the verses right after this we see Jesus begin gathering His Apostles. The first members of the first church. Three years later we will see Jesus give His Great Commission to this same church to be passed down to all of His churches to come.

The preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the first part and most important part of the Great Commission. Without the salvation of souls there would be no need for the rest of the commission.

The Lord's churches are commanded to go and preach the Gospel to all the world. How is this even possible? Today it is very easy. With the technology God has blessed us with we can preach the Gospel from our pulpits and broadcast it live or through recordings all over the world.

We have missionaries we support financially and with prayer that are the representatives of whole groups of churches. These missionaries are stationed in different points around the world. Preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ. What a blessing it is to support such men.

We have no excuse to not be reaching the whole world with the Gospel of Jesus Christ.

Our Lord preached His Gospel in His time on this earth. Do we think we are so much better than He that we need not do the same?

Galatians 1:11-12

“But I certify you, brethren, that the gospel which was preached of me is not after man. For I neither received it of man, neither was I taught it, but by the revelation of Jesus Christ.”

In the preceding verses, Paul had been warning the churches at Galatia about following after false gospels. Paul writes clear and plain here. There are no new revelations from man concerning God's Word. Yes, when the Holy Spirit comes to and reveals the saving power of the gospel of Christ, it is at that time, a new revelation to us. But it is not a new revelation of Jesus Christ.

What Paul is trying to get across here is that if we hear someone preach contrary to what God has said in his Word we need to leave it alone. The preaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ is the preaching of God's grace and mercy upon His chosen people. When men add anything to that they are wrong. Whether it is a sinner's prayer, or telling you to live a good life or by quoting a catechism or going to church or anything other than the preaching of God's Sovereign Grace.

God is never changing. So is His Gospel. The Gospel of Jesus Christ has never changed and never will. Some out there think the preaching of the old ways are outdated and need updating. But why? And for what purpose? Why not just follow the commandments and teachings of our Lord and Savior? It's that simple. Jesus is not going to give you or anyone else some new revelation that He has not given in His Word.

Preach the truth, the whole truth of God!!! Be careful of commentaries. Commentators will lead you astray. Many false doctrines have been planted, watered, and blossomed from commentators who have strayed from God's Word in their writings. And when men put more faith in the writings of man than in the writings of God.

Commentaries can be a good tool for study when used correctly. But if a writer is contrary to God's Word in one little area, be careful because often he will be off in others. This can quickly lead to their readers following after man rather than God.

Isaiah 60:1

“Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.”

Though this verse was originally intended for Israel, can we not apply it to God's people of all ages?

Think on this thought. The common way of the world today teaches us that waking in the morning is a dreadful thing. We have come accustomed to our slumber. Much more than enjoying the time of our awaking. This is the way of the world and not that of our Heavenly Father.

So what is this light that has come to us? Is it not Jesus Christ? Are we not told that Christ is the Light? Then if we are truly in Christ then why wouldn't we want to arise and shine in His light or in Him? The glory of the Lord or the Gospel of Christ is upon us!!! Then why wouldn't we want to arise and shine in Him and for Him?

The world is out to destroy anything and anyone having anything to do with Jesus Christ. Through social media, news media, educational systems, the destruction of our godly heritage, the world is attempting to indoctrinate Jesus Christ out of the lives of God's own people. And sadly many of us blindly follow right along.

Don't let the world steal your glory of the Lord. “Arise, shine; for thy light is come, and the glory of the Lord is risen upon thee.”

Exodus 34:5-9

“5 And the Lord descended in the cloud, and stood with him there, and proclaimed the name of the Lord.

6 And the Lord passed by before him, and proclaimed, The Lord, The Lord God, merciful and gracious, longsuffering, and abundant in goodness and truth,

7 Keeping mercy for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, and that will by no means clear the guilty; visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children, and upon the children's children, unto the third and to the fourth generation.

8 And Moses made haste, and bowed his head toward the earth, and worshipped.

9 And he said, If now I have found grace in thy sight, O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.”

I wonder how many Pastors pray the way Moses prayed in verses 8-9? Notice Moses did just pray for the people of the congregation but he included himself when he prayed: “O Lord, let my Lord, I pray thee, go among us; for it is a stiffnecked people; and pardon our iniquity and our sin, and take us for thine inheritance.”

Psalm 90:1-2

“1 Lord, thou hast been our dwelling place in all generations.

2 Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.”

Man has laid claim to being gods since the fall in the Garden of Eden. Adam thought he knew better than God about his own life and ate of the fruit that God had commanded Adam not to eat thereof. And so it has been from that point on. Men have forsaken the commands of God and have followed after their own wicked hearts and thoughts. So much so that now it is deeply instilled within our world that man and not God is in control of our own destiny. Man has been trying to push God and the things of God out of the very hearts and minds of God's own people for many generations now. Though they have been successful to a point, God will have the final say in all this. Fore we know that there is a great day coming when all the world will be judged. All those who lived from the beginning to end will be judged and all those not found washed in the blood of Jesus and all those names not found written down in the Lambs Book of Life from the foundations of the earth will find the ultimate rejection and an eternity in the Lake of Fire.

No, you cannot save yourself. Following the best of the best motivational speakers will not bring you everlasting peace. The things of this life are short. But eternity is forever and forever.

Where do you stand today? With God or against God?

1 John 5:19-20

“19 And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.

20 And we know that the Son of God is come, and hath given us an understanding, that we may know him that is true, and we are in him that is true, even in his Son Jesus Christ. This is the true God, and eternal life.”

Jeremiah 7:16-20

“16 Therefore pray not thou for this people, neither lift up cry nor prayer for them, neither make intercession to me: for I will not hear thee.

17 Seest thou not what they do in the cities of Judah and in the streets of Jerusalem?

18 The children gather wood, and the fathers kindle the fire, and the women knead their dough, to make cakes to the queen of heaven, and to pour out drink offerings unto other gods, that they may provoke me to anger.

19 Do they provoke me to anger? saith the Lord: do they not provoke themselves to the confusion of their own faces?

20 Therefore thus saith the Lord God; Behold, mine anger and my fury shall be poured out upon this place, upon man, and upon beast, and upon the trees of the field, and upon the fruit of the ground; and it shall burn, and shall not be quenched.”

In verse 18 we see the first place in Holy Scripture the first time the name “queen of heaven” mentioned. There are only two other places in God's Word I know of that mentions this name. Jeremiah 44:18 & 19 are the only other two verse in the Bible I have been able to find this title. Most Bible Scholars will agree that all three times we have listed here are referring to either one or both of the false gods of fertility Ashtoreth or Tammuz. These two were very popular with false god worship in Jeremiah's day.

Down through history we see this title given to others. As Baptist we commonly consider one of the worst abominations of Roman Catholicism and her daughters to their naming Mary, the mother of Jesus, the “Queen of Heaven”. But what does our Lord say of this? In Luke 11:27-28 Jesus rebuked a woman for praising His mother or for giving Mary too much praise. We know in Luke 1:28 that the angel told Mary she was “highly favored” But nowhere in God's Word does God or Jesus or the Holy Spirit or anyone else for that matter ever refer to Mary as the “Queen of Heaven”. Matter of fact the passage in Luke 11 Jesus rebukes those seeking to give Mary praise.

So is there a “Queen of Heaven”? I believe the answer is emphatically NO! Today there are those who try to claim the Lord's Church is such. But where is this found in God's Word? As right now, in the present time in which we live, the Bridegroom has not come for His Bride. The marriage has not been consummated As of our present time, the Lord and His Churches have not been brought together as one as husband and wife. The Churches are still spread all over the world and are local and visible entities separate from each other. They will not come together until the Bridegroom calls her out of this world into Heaven to prepare for that great wedding. The Lord's Bride is still just that, His Bride at this point in time. She will not be referred to as His wife until Revelation 21:9 and this is after the wedding is over and the marriage consummated and after the Marriage Supper of the Lamb takes place back in Revelation 19.

But where is the Bride of Christ or the Wife of Christ ever referred to or called or titled the “Queen of Heaven” in God's own Word? Never!!!

As we have seen, the only reference to the title or name of “queen of heaven” in Holy Script is to false god worship and God called it abomination and even told Jeremiah He would not hear the prayers of those who worshiped such.

The Roman Catholicism title for Jesus' Earthly mother, Holy Mary, Mother of God, Queen of Heaven, is more blasphemous than what we saw in Jeremiah's day.

So, what saith the Lord on this matter? Nothing. The Lord refers to His Church as His Bride and towards the end of the Book of Revelation, His Wife. Never His Queen or the Queen of Heaven. Is she the Bride and eventual Wife of the King of Kings and Lord of Lords? Certainly she is!!! But as Baptist we must be careful not to fall for the false doctrines or even using the false ideas and whims of the world's religion just because it sounds good. God's Word is clear. So why not ask the question: What saith Lord? And follow what He has said rather than follow our own feelings and thoughts and ideas.

Praise ye the Lord!!!
