Psalm 9:9
The Lord also will be a refuge for the oppressed, a refuge
in times of trouble.”
In this verse the Psalmist David writes a glorious truth and
a blessing beyond measure from our Lord. But some today take this verse out of
context and use it to fit their own false doctrine.
The “Jesus loves everybody” crowd will say this verse is
proof that all those who have been oppressed and been dealt troubles can seek
refuge in the Lord. They will make the claim from this verse that we are all
God's children and He loves us all and wants only good for us all.
But look at the next verse. Verse 10: “And they that know
thy name will put their trust in thee: for thou, Lord, hast not forsaken them
that seek thee.”
So, who will the Lord be a refuge to? What oppressed people
is he speaking of in verse 9? “they that know thy name” and “them that seek
thee”.
Where does a person get “the whole world” out of this? Where
do these two verse say anything about those other than them that love the Lord?
We as God's children must be careful who we listen to. There
are many out there who will lead us astray if we listen long enough and if we
don't compare scripture with scripture. Pretty words are nice and soothing. But
if they are false they will ruin our witness for Christ and rob us of our
rewards.
Child of God, rejoice in the truth that our Lord is a refuge
for us to turn to in times of oppression and troubles. Praise God He has chosen
you to be His!!! Praise God we are no longer dead but alive in Him!!! Praise
God we have a Savior who gave His life that we might be set free!!! O what a
Savior!!! O what love He has for His people!!!
Praise ye the Lord!!!
