Luke 1:1-4

“1 Forasmuch as many have taken in hand to set forth in order a declaration of those things which are most surely believed among us,

2 Even as they delivered them unto us, which from the beginning were eyewitnesses, and ministers of the word;

3 It seemed good to me also, having had perfect understanding of all things from the very first, to write unto thee in order, most excellent Theophilus,

4 That thou mightest know the certainty of those things, wherein thou hast been instructed.”

If the physician Luke was so careful to get the retelling of our Lord's birth and life correct then why do God's people today not have a desire for the same?

Morning Devotional December 25, 2021

 John 4:24

“God is a Spirit: and they that worship him must worship him in spirit and in truth.”

“In spirit and in truth.” Many today want to worship God in spirit, or what they think is spirit, but forget the next three words in this verse. “and in truth.” But if we are not worshiping God in truth are we truly worshiping Him in spirit? If we are worshiping in spirit but not in truth then what is this spirit in which we worship if it is not the Holy Spirit of God? Notice the word “must”. This is a command. Jesus is commanding that those who worship God worship Him in spirit and in truth. No exceptions. The only way God will except our worship is if we come to Him in spirit and in truth.

2 Timothy 4:3-4 “3 For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine; but after their own lusts shall they heap to themselves teachers, having itching ears;

4 And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.”

What do we see today? People claiming to be worshiping God by celebrating the birth of His Son in spirit. But what spirit? If the day is so steeped in false doctrine and most can't even the get the story correct and then there is the addition of lying to children about a man they have made an Antichrist. How is the worshiping God in spirit and in truth as He commanded? And is it when someone makes a stand to tell the truth of this matter they are persecuted and ridiculed by those claiming to be worshiping in spirit and in truth?

Verse 4 in 2 Timothy 4 speaks volumes about what is going on within God's people today. “And they shall turn away their ears from the truth, and shall be turned unto fables.” The teaching of “fables” abound much in the Lord's very churches today. Not just in those who claim to be the Lord's churches but in the those who are truly the Lord's churches. What an abomination it is for those who stand so strongly on the truth in so many other areas but when it comes to Roman Catholic holy days they will leave the truth of God's Word and follow after the same fables taught by those who martyred our Baptist forefathers for making the same stand against the same holy days.

I will close with this. Remember the situation of God's people in Jerusalem in Jeremiah's day.

Jeremiah 5:30-31

“30 A wonderful and horrible thing is committed in the land;

31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?”

Remember these words: “and my people love to have it so.”

John 8:31-32

“31 Then said Jesus to those Jews which believed on him, If ye continue in my word, then are ye my disciples indeed;

32 And ye shall know the truth, and the truth shall make you free.”

With many of God's promises to His people there are conditions in which God requires His people to follow so that His promise will come to pass. So many only read the last part of verse 32(“and the truth shall make you free”) and take it to heart that God has promised to set them free from sin. But when read in it's context we see that Jesus mentions conditions to this promise in verse 31. First notice these were believers in Christ. Second notice we must continue in His Word. Not just reading His Word, but studying, obeying, following, etc. It is only then that we become disciples of Christ. It is only then that He will begin to show us His truth, the truth of His Word. And it is only then that that truth will make us free from the sins and the desires of our old sinful hearts. When He brings us to the point where we are more focused on Him and His Word then the desires of our hearts turn from the sins of this life to following our Lord and Savior making us His disciples indeed.

Whose disciple are you today? The world or Christ?

Luke 2:11

“For unto you is born this day in the city of David a Saviour, which is Christ the Lord.”

Nowadays, starting in July or August the retail world begins putting out displays and having sales preparing people for the xmas season. The day that has become the most holy day all over the world. But why? Well, it's not hard to see the retail world is after the money. But what about God's people? Why are God's people following these traditions? Why are God's people following after a story that is so full of false doctrine and doctrines of devils?

But you say: “wait minute brother. It's the story of our Lord's earthly birth. It's in the Bible.” My question to you is this: “Why does the story told today, the story most popular today, have so many discrepancies with the story told in God's Word?” And where in the Bible do you find some of the things taught this time of year as being part of the story of our Lord's birth?

Are we not commanded to “study to show ourselves approved unto God”? Then why is it when it comes to the story of the birth of the Christ child people refuse to study what God's Word says? Why are they more prone to follow after those who have no desire for the truth than to follow the truth itself?

If you are interested and I mean truly interested in the truth then go study the story of Jesus' birth in the Books of Matthew and Luke. Go to Isaiah and find the verses pertaining to His birth. Seek out the truth as God has commanded His people. Flee the traditions of man and follow the Lord!!!

As God's people we are commanded to proclaim the truth of God's Word to all the world. But what kind of witness are we if we can't even get the events of His earthly birth correct?

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Philippians 4:19

“But my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus.”

What a glorious thought! To know our God supplies all our need. And how is this possible? Because we have been washed in the blood of Christ Jesus!!!

Now let me ask you this, is He your God? Or have you other gods before Him? Are you following Christ or the things of this world? Then how can you expect God to supply all your need?

Follow Christ today and receive the greatest blessings God has for His children.

1 John 4:1

“Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.”

Where will you be today? Is the church you attend preaching the truth or are you starving for spiritual food at the hands of a false prophet? We are commanded to prepare for the return of our Lord as a bride would prepare for her bridegroom. So why would we listen to someone who preaches not the ways of our Bridegroom?

Halloween, Reformation Day, All Saints Day, Christmas, and a number of other popular holy days are full of the doctrines of devils according to God's Word. And, yet, God's people love to have it so.

Why would we waste the Lord's time on those who are not of God?

Romans 1:12

“That is, that I may be comforted together with you by the mutual faith both of you and me.”

This morning my wife and I are up early again, getting ready to go fellowship with another one of the Lord's churches. It has a been a great blessing to us to live in an area of the country where there are so many churches of like faith and order. It has been a blessing to the members of the church I pastor to know we can have such sweet fellowship with others and that many of those others will also come to our meetings seeking fellowship. What a great comfort in this life to be able to fellowship with God's people and especial when it with those we have such a close bond with in doctrine and belief.

Another blessing we have today that the Apostle Paul and the early churches did not have is technology. We have the great opportunity to fellowship with brothers and sisters all over the world through social media, via cell phone, video chat, and a number of other ways. What a blessing our God has provided for His people to be a comfort to each other in this dark and trying times.

Job 37:9-14

“9 Out of the south cometh the whirlwind: and cold out of the north.

10 By the breath of God frost is given: and the breadth of the waters is straitened.

11 Also by watering he wearieth the thick cloud: he scattereth his bright cloud:

12 And it is turned round about by his counsels: that they may do whatsoever he commandeth them upon the face of the world in the earth.

13 He causeth it to come, whether for correction, or for his land, or for mercy.

14 Hearken unto this, O Job: stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.”

Often, if we would just “stand still, and consider the wondrous works of God.” we would forget all the stress and worry of this life.

Acts 20:7

“And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.”

The sermons have gotten increasingly shorter since Paul's day. And of course God's people love to have it so.

People will spend all day and all night going to and from a ball game or a concert but can't show up for an hour or two on Sunday morning to hear God's Word preached. People can watch sports or movies all day on Saturday or every night of the week but can't find the time to meet at the Church for the evening services. People will complain if the preacher goes over 30 minutes.

Why are the churches not full or at least half full today? Because people have lost their fear of God. Your fancy home, new vehicles, shiny new boat or ATV, are not going to get you rewards at the final judgment. How is taking your children to ball practice instead of a church service being a witness for Christ?

If you love Him as you claim then why do you not follow His commandments? Why do you teach your children and others to follow the world and the lust of this life over the love of our Heavenly Father? It's pretty obvious which one will be more important in the end.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

1 Corinthians 10:1-14

“1 Moreover, brethren, I would not that ye should be ignorant, how that all our fathers were under the cloud, and all passed through the sea;

2 And were all baptized unto Moses in the cloud and in the sea;

3 And did all eat the same spiritual meat;

4 And did all drink the same spiritual drink: for they drank of that spiritual Rock that followed them: and that Rock was Christ.

5 But with many of them God was not well pleased: for they were overthrown in the wilderness.

6 Now these things were our examples, to the intent we should not lust after evil things, as they also lusted.

7 Neither be ye idolaters, as were some of them; as it is written, The people sat down to eat and drink, and rose up to play.

8 Neither let us commit fornication, as some of them committed, and fell in one day three and twenty thousand.

9 Neither let us tempt Christ, as some of them also tempted, and were destroyed of serpents.

10 Neither murmur ye, as some of them also murmured, and were destroyed of the destroyer.

11 Now all these things happened unto them for examples: and they are written for our admonition, upon whom the ends of the world are come.

12 Wherefore let him that thinketh he standeth take heed lest he fall.

13 There hath no temptation taken you but such as is common to man: but God is faithful, who will not suffer you to be tempted above that ye are able; but will with the temptation also make a way to escape, that ye may be able to bear it.

14 Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.”

There are multiple quotes about history repeating itself because we don't learn from or we forget the mistakes of those before us? Notice Paul says twice that the things of the past that are written in the Old Testament are examples for us. Examples we are not to repeat. We are to study these examples and learn from them. Not repeat them. And yet, today many, and yes many of God's own people, will follow after the ways of the world rather than God's commandments. Notice that last verse. “Wherefore, my dearly beloved, flee from idolatry.” The greatest sin of the Nation of Israel recorded in the Old Testament was idolatry. They followed after the false gods of Egypt and then after the nations God removed from before them in the Promised Land and eventually from the neighboring kingdoms.

Look around us today. Are we not seeing the same thing in our nation today? In the Churches? In the homes of God's people?

In the days of the Prophet Jeremiah he recorded seeing alters or places of worship to false gods on every street in Jerusalem. Jeremiah tells of how the Priest in God's House, the Temple, were excepting sacrifices to Baal and other false gods on the alters meant for the worship of God and only God. Jeremiah 5:31 The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?”

In our text verses the Apostle Paul warned of the same thing. Because of false doctrine taught by false prophets we think the things the Old Testament teaches for examples are not for us but only for the Jews. Then why does Paul tell it to the Church in Corinth? The Corinthian Church was predominately Gentile. The examples given in the Old and New Testaments are for all of God's people for all time.

This is why I encourage you to study history. Learn from the examples of our Forefathers. Don't follow after the mistakes and sins made by those in the past. But rather learn from their examples and follow God. Yes, we live in a very wicked world, but we are commanded to follow Christ not the world.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Revelation 1:1-3

“1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, which God gave unto him, to shew unto his servants things which must shortly come to pass; and he sent and signified it by his angel unto his servant John:

2 Who bare record of the word of God, and of the testimony of Jesus Christ, and of all things that he saw.

3 Blessed is he that readeth, and they that hear the words of this prophecy, and keep those things which are written therein: for the time is at hand.”

Why are so many afraid of what John wrote in Revelation? If you are a child of God there is nothing to fear. For much of what is written we will not be here to witness. First, we should be looking for the Lord's return for His people before these things take place. Second, if we are a member, in good standing, of one of the Lord's true churches, we should be listening for the calling of the Bridegroom for His Bride. Third, we should be concerning ourselves with making ready for the Bridegroom. Whether you are in the Bride or not we must prepare and be ready for His return.

Sadly, many who profess Christ have a need to fear of those days to come. False professions are a horrible thing. So many have been persuaded by false religion and wolves in sheep's clothing into accepting a christ they know not and a Christ that knows them not.

If you are a child of God today make yourself ready fore the Bridegroom cometh!

1 John 4:1-6

1 Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.

2 Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:

3 And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.

4 Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.

5 They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.

6 We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.”

2 Timothy 3:1-5

“1 This know also, that in the last days perilous times shall come.

2 For men shall be lovers of their own selves, covetous, boasters, proud, blasphemers, disobedient to parents, unthankful, unholy,

3 Without natural affection, trucebreakers, false accusers, incontinent, fierce, despisers of those that are good,

4 Traitors, heady, highminded, lovers of pleasures more than lovers of God;

5 Having a form of godliness, but denying the power thereof: from such turn away.”

Notice the last few words in verse 5. “from such turn away.” And yet today, God's children turn towards and run after the very ones God tells us to turn away from.

Why are we told to turn away? So we don't become like them. Remember being taught about “Peer Pressure”? The more we are around sin the more we are likely to fall for sin. That's why Christ said “Follow me”. For the child of God our “Hero” should be Jesus Christ and not some actor in movies/TV or some sports player or politician, or some big name preacher. These are the types of people Paul was warning Timothy about.

Our command is to follow Christ and to turn away from all forms of ungodliness.

“16 This I say then, Walk in the Spirit, and ye shall not fulfil the lust of the flesh.

17 For the flesh lusteth against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh: and these are contrary the one to the other: so that ye cannot do the things that ye would.

18 But if ye be led of the Spirit, ye are not under the law.

19 Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; Adultery, fornication, uncleanness, lasciviousness,

20 Idolatry, witchcraft, hatred, variance, emulations, wrath, strife, seditions, heresies,

21 Envyings, murders, drunkenness, revellings, and such like: of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God.

22 But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, gentleness, goodness, faith,

23 Meekness, temperance: against such there is no law.

24 And they that are Christ's have crucified the flesh with the affections and lusts.

25 If we live in the Spirit, let us also walk in the Spirit.

26 Let us not be desirous of vain glory, provoking one another, envying one another.”

Some of y'all would rather “dwell in the tents of wickedness” than to “be a doorkeeper in the house of my God”. What a sad testimony for a child of God.

O child of God, flee the lust of the flesh and follow Christ today!!! Repent of your abominations and seek His face.

You want healing in your home and in your land? Start by examining yourself. Are you following Christ or after doctrines of devils?

Jude 5-13

“5 I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this, how that the Lord, having saved the people out of the land of Egypt, afterward destroyed them that believed not.

6 And the angels which kept not their first estate, but left their own habitation, he hath reserved in everlasting chains under darkness unto the judgment of the great day.

7 Even as Sodom and Gomorrha, and the cities about them in like manner, giving themselves over to fornication, and going after strange flesh, are set forth for an example, suffering the vengeance of eternal fire.

8 Likewise also these filthy dreamers defile the flesh, despise dominion, and speak evil of dignities.

9 Yet Michael the archangel, when contending with the devil he disputed about the body of Moses, durst not bring against him a railing accusation, but said, The Lord rebuke thee.

10 But these speak evil of those things which they know not: but what they know naturally, as brute beasts, in those things they corrupt themselves.

11 Woe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain, and ran greedily after the error of Balaam for reward, and perished in the gainsaying of Core.

12 These are spots in your feasts of charity, when they feast with you, feeding themselves without fear: clouds they are without water, carried about of winds; trees whose fruit withereth, without fruit, twice dead, plucked up by the roots;

13 Raging waves of the sea, foaming out their own shame; wandering stars, to whom is reserved the blackness of darkness for ever.”

What bold but true statement by the writer of this little Book: “ I will therefore put you in remembrance, though ye once knew this”. How often we find ourselves forgetting the examples given in God's Word. Examples of how to live and not to live. Yet God's people, in their rebellion, will follow after sin rather than follow their Heavenly Father. Remember that old saying: “Would you jump off a cliff if they told you to?” The answer? Well, yes we would.

Much of the stress we are under everyday is nothing more than a “trust issue”. Our lack of trust in our Heavenly Father and that He is control of everything in the lives of His children. If we could simply learn to trust in the Lord and not worry and fret over the people and things of the world around us, how much more stress free would our lives be? “1 Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:

2 By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.

3 And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;

4 And patience, experience; and experience, hope:

5 And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.

6 For when we were yet without strength, in due time Christ died for the ungodly.

7 For scarcely for a righteous man will one die: yet peradventure for a good man some would even dare to die.

8 But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us.

9 Much more then, being now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.

10 For if, when we were enemies, we were reconciled to God by the death of his Son, much more, being reconciled, we shall be saved by his life.

11 And not only so, but we also joy in God through our Lord Jesus Christ, by whom we have now received the atonement.”

2 Peter 3:8-18

“8 But, beloved, be not ignorant of this one thing, that one day is with the Lord as a thousand years, and a thousand years as one day.

9 The Lord is not slack concerning his promise, as some men count slackness; but is longsuffering to us-ward, not willing that any should perish, but that all should come to repentance.

10 But the day of the Lord will come as a thief in the night; in the which the heavens shall pass away with a great noise, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat, the earth also and the works that are therein shall be burned up.

11 Seeing then that all these things shall be dissolved, what manner of persons ought ye to be in all holy conversation and godliness,

12 Looking for and hasting unto the coming of the day of God, wherein the heavens being on fire shall be dissolved, and the elements shall melt with fervent heat?

13 Nevertheless we, according to his promise, look for new heavens and a new earth, wherein dwelleth righteousness.

14 Wherefore, beloved, seeing that ye look for such things, be diligent that ye may be found of him in peace, without spot, and blameless.

15 And account that the longsuffering of our Lord is salvation; even as our beloved brother Paul also according to the wisdom given unto him hath written unto you;

16 As also in all his epistles, speaking in them of these things; in which are some things hard to be understood, which they that are unlearned and unstable wrest, as they do also the other scriptures, unto their own destruction.

17 Ye therefore, beloved, seeing ye know these things before, beware lest ye also, being led away with the error of the wicked, fall from your own stedfastness.

18 But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.”

Morning Devotional September 7, 2021

James 5:16

“Confess your faults one to another, and pray one for another, that ye may be healed. The effectual fervent prayer of a righteous man availeth much.”

Most problems between God's people could be avoided and/or reconciled if we would just humble ourselves before the Lord and our brethren and pray fervently one for another.

We need to remember Proverbs 16:18 “Pride goeth before destruction, and an haughty spirit before a fall.”

Praise ye the Lord!!!
