Psalm 23:1

“The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want.”

What else should we want, but our Lord as our shepherd? Meditate on what all that entails.

Jeremiah 15:16

“Thy words were found, and I did eat them; and thy word was unto me the joy and rejoicing of mine heart: for I am called by thy name, O Lord God of hosts.”

Have you ate at the table of the Master this morning? If not, why not? You want true joy and peace of mind and heart? Then go to God's Word every morning. Meditate on what you read all throughout the day. Commune with the Father continuously. Never ceasing to praise Him for His grace and mercy on His servant.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Hebrews 13:18

“Pray for us: for we trust we have a good conscience, in all things willing to live honestly.”

Do you pray for your brothers and sisters in Christ? Not just in our morning and evening prayers or in times of public prayers. What of the times when someone comes to our thoughts throughout the day or even in the middle of the night? We are commanded to “pray without ceasing”. So who or what is on our mind throughout the day and into the evening hours?

We should be praying for each other often. Whether we know of a need or not. Fact is, we all need the prayers of our brethren. Living in this old wicked world, we all have struggles and temptations. Some more than others. But, we all have them.

Like the writer of our text verse says, if we are living in good conscience and willing to live honestly we need prayer. For it is then that the enemy seems to oftentimes be more active in our lives. Thus, a reason we need prayer.

Ezekiel 8:15

Then said he unto me, Hast thou seen this, O son of man? turn thee yet again, and thou shalt see greater abominations than these.”

Three times God told Ezekiel “And thou shalt see greater abominations than these.” In verses 6, 13, & 15. And each time God showed Ezekiel more and more wickedness from the Temple in Jerusalem. All these abominations Ezekiel saw in chapter were being carried out in God's House. Paintings and statues of false gods were all over the walls. The statue of a false god was standing guard at the door. Even the women were worshiping a false god, Tammuz, the queen of heaven. And the priest allowed all this to happen and even participated and led in the worship of false gods in the very House of God.

And what do we see in many churches today? Though we do not worship the same as Israel was supposed to in Ezekiel's day. We are to be taking our worship of God just as seriously as they were. False gods and idols have no place where we come to worship God. God is a jealous God and will not tolerate abominations from His children. It was these abominations by God's people that caused the downfall of Israel, Judah, and Jerusalem. Is it any wonder our nation is in the shape it is in today? Look at the abominations of God's people in the land. Idols and false gods everywhere. And yet we expect God to protect us from the enemy.

Time and time again, God has warned His people in His Word about these things. And here we are, doing exactly what He told us not to do.

Psalm 40:8

“I delight to do thy will, O my God: yea, thy law is within my heart.”

For the child of God, our greatest delight in this life should be pleasing our Heavenly Father by doing His will. Showing our love for our Heavenly Father by following His commandments should be our life long goal and our greatest joy.

24 Though he fall, he shall not be utterly cast down: for the Lord upholdeth him with his hand.”

1 Peter 5:1-4

“1 The elders which are among you I exhort, who am also an elder, and a witness of the sufferings of Christ, and also a partaker of the glory that shall be revealed:

2 Feed the flock of God which is among you, taking the oversight thereof, not by constraint, but willingly; not for filthy lucre, but of a ready mind;

3 Neither as being lords over God's heritage, but being examples to the flock.

4 And when the chief Shepherd shall appear, ye shall receive a crown of glory that fadeth not away.”

One thing that saddens me greatly is to see a man who has been called to the ministry who lords over a group of people or tries to govern over them as if they are his own little kingdom. God's Word is clear on this matter. We are called to be ministers for a reason(look of the definition of the word minister). The verses above give a good example of how the Elders of the Lord's Churches are to be.

A course in humility with the Bible as our text book would do a lot of us some good. Along with a refresher course every few years.

Matthew 6:19-24

“19 Lay not up for yourselves treasures upon earth, where moth and rust doth corrupt, and where thieves break through and steal:

20 But lay up for yourselves treasures in heaven, where neither moth nor rust doth corrupt, and where thieves do not break through nor steal:

21 For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.

22 The light of the body is the eye: if therefore thine eye be single, thy whole body shall be full of light.

23 But if thine eye be evil, thy whole body shall be full of darkness. If therefore the light that is in thee be darkness, how great is that darkness!

24 No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”

Jeremiah 9:23-24

“23 Thus saith the Lord, Let not the wise man glory in his wisdom, neither let the mighty man glory in his might, let not the rich man glory in his riches:

24 But let him that glorieth glory in this, that he understandeth and knoweth me, that I am the Lord which exercise lovingkindness, judgment, and righteousness, in the earth: for in these things I delight, saith the Lord.”

In what do you glory today? Do you have more praise for your wisdom, health, and wealth than for the things of the Lord? Do we rejoice in the same things the Lord says are His delight?

1 John 5:10-13

“10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Do you believeth on the Son of God? Have you believed on the name of the Son of God? Do you know without a doubt that you have eternal life? If not, then why not answer His calling today? Believe on the name of Jesus Christ and be saved. Repent of your sins and follow the Savior.

Psalm 89:5-8

“5 And the heavens shall praise thy wonders, O Lord: thy faithfulness also in the congregation of the saints.

6 For who in the heaven can be compared unto the Lord? who among the sons of the mighty can be likened unto the Lord?

7 God is greatly to be feared in the assembly of the saints, and to be had in reverence of all them that are about him.

8 O Lord God of hosts, who is a strong Lord like unto thee? or to thy faithfulness round about thee?”

Psalm 146:5-10

“5 Happy is he that hath the God of Jacob for his help, whose hope is in the Lord his God:

6 Which made heaven, and earth, the sea, and all that therein is: which keepeth truth for ever:

7 Which executeth judgment for the oppressed: which giveth food to the hungry. The Lord looseth the prisoners:

8 The Lord openeth the eyes of the blind: the Lord raiseth them that are bowed down: the Lord loveth the righteous:

9 The Lord preserveth the strangers; he relieveth the fatherless and widow: but the way of the wicked he turneth upside down.

10 The Lord shall reign for ever, even thy God, O Zion, unto all generations. Praise ye the Lord.”

John 14:5-7

“5 Thomas saith unto him, Lord, we know not whither thou goest; and how can we know the way?

6 Jesus saith unto him, I am the way, the truth, and the life: no man cometh unto the Father, but by me.

7 If ye had known me, ye should have known my Father also: and from henceforth ye know him, and have seen him.”

Do you know the way to the Father? Do you know the Son? Has His Holy Spirit called you unto His salvation? Have you believed? If He is calling you then why hath thou not believed? Why not trust Him today? This very hour?

John 3:36 - “He that believeth on the Son hath everlasting life: and he that believeth not the Son shall not see life; but the wrath of God abideth on him.”

Mark 10:42-45

“42 But Jesus called them to him, and saith unto them, Ye know that they which are accounted to rule over the Gentiles exercise lordship over them; and their great ones exercise authority upon them.

43 But so shall it not be among you: but whosoever will be great among you, shall be your minister:

44 And whosoever of you will be the chiefest, shall be servant of all.

45 For even the Son of man came not to be ministered unto, but to minister, and to give his life a ransom for many.”

John 6:26-40

“26 Jesus answered them and said, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Ye seek me, not because ye saw the miracles, but because ye did eat of the loaves, and were filled.

27 Labour not for the meat which perisheth, but for that meat which endureth unto everlasting life, which the Son of man shall give unto you: for him hath God the Father sealed.

28 Then said they unto him, What shall we do, that we might work the works of God?

29 Jesus answered and said unto them, This is the work of God, that ye believe on him whom he hath sent.

30 They said therefore unto him, What sign shewest thou then, that we may see, and believe thee? what dost thou work?

31 Our fathers did eat manna in the desert; as it is written, He gave them bread from heaven to eat.

32 Then Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Moses gave you not that bread from heaven; but my Father giveth you the true bread from heaven.

33 For the bread of God is he which cometh down from heaven, and giveth life unto the world.

34 Then said they unto him, Lord, evermore give us this bread.

35 And Jesus said unto them, I am the bread of life: he that cometh to me shall never hunger; and he that believeth on me shall never thirst.

36 But I said unto you, That ye also have seen me, and believe not.

37 All that the Father giveth me shall come to me; and him that cometh to me I will in no wise cast out.

38 For I came down from heaven, not to do mine own will, but the will of him that sent me.

39 And this is the Father's will which hath sent me, that of all which he hath given me I should lose nothing, but should raise it up again at the last day.

40 And this is the will of him that sent me, that every one which seeth the Son, and believeth on him, may have everlasting life: and I will raise him up at the last day.”

James 1:12

“Blessed is the man that endureth temptation: for when he is tried, he shall receive the crown of life, which the Lord hath promised to them that love him.”

We must be very careful with this verse. Oftentimes we hear people use this verse as a bragging point for their life. But read the whole verse. It does not stop with “Blesses is the man that endureth temptation.” as some would have us believe. Rather, the Lord is the theme of the verse or the promise of the Lord. Notice the promise of the crown of life is to them that love HIM not to those who love themselves.
