Morning Devotional June 4, 2022

Psalm 133

“1 Behold, how good and how pleasant it is for brethren to dwell together in unity!

2 It is like the precious ointment upon the head, that ran down upon the beard, even Aaron's beard: that went down to the skirts of his garments;

3 As the dew of Hermon, and as the dew that descended upon the mountains of Zion: for there the Lord commanded the blessing, even life for evermore.”

Oh what a glorious opportunity we have in this life! To have sweet fellowship with others of like faith and order. To have unity with our brethren should be a great joy in our life.

Yet, I know so many who have no real desire for fellowship with other saints. Some will refuse to attend the church they are a member of, but will brag of their undying devotion to the Lord. Some will rather fellowship with those they claim to have little in common with than to gather with those of like faith.

There was a time, not that long ago, when Baptists would plan their vacations and holidays around a Bible Conference or Fellowship Meeting or Revival Meeting. Bringing the whole family along. Some even traveling for hours or days to seek sweet fellowship with others.

Oftentimes today we see less than half of a host church's membership attending special meetings. These same people were, just yesterday, at the doctor's office, or shopping at Walmart, or driving long distances to be with friends or family. But where are they when the doors of the church, they are so proudly a member of, are open?

Almost weekly, I receive messages from brothers and sisters in foreign lands who would love to be with us every time we have services. People who have no true church in the area they live. I know other pastors who receive similar messages.

In our land today there seems to be a great falling away from the faith once delivered to the saints. The desire to have fellowship with the brethren seems to have taken a backseat to the cares of this world. If you are a member of one of the Lord's true churches, what/where is your witness? Are you a member in good standing or a member standing out in the world? Where are the desires of your heart? Following the commandments of God or playing in the world? Setting at home feeling sorry for yourself, or joining in corporate worship of God with your brothers and sisters?

Come, see how good and how pleasant it is to dwell together in unity with the brethren.

Praise ye the Lord!!!
