Morning Devotional May 12, 2024

Acts 20:27-31

“27 For I have not shunned to declare unto you all the counsel of God.

28 Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.

29 For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock.

30 Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.

31 Therefore watch, and remember, that by the space of three years I ceased not to warn every one night and day with tears.”

The Apostle Paul was very concerned with the future of the Lord's churches. So much so that he often warned of the coming of false preachers and teachers, doctrines of devils, and all kinds of apostasy. But, notice in verse 30. Paul tells the Elders of the Church at Ephesus there would be some of their own who would rise up and preach false doctrine and draw people out of the true churches and unto themselves. This is the very reason for what he says in verse 28. “Take heed therefore unto yourselves, and to all the flock, over the which the Holy Ghost hath made you overseers, to feed the church of God, which he hath purchased with his own blood.”

Pastor, how serious do you take your calling from the Lord to preach all the counsel of God? How serious do you take the duty of being the overseer of one of the Lord's flocks? Is it all fun and games? Is it no more than an occupation to you? Are you in it for fame or fortune? Is your goal to stir up controversy among God's people? Are you out to make changes for your own ambitions? Have you forgotten Jesus Christ purchased with His own blood the souls of His elect people with whom you have been made an overseer? We are commanded to feed the sheep of Christ not the goats of the world. Yes, we are commanded to preach the gospel of Jesus Christ to a lost and dying world. But when we come together in corporate worship with one of His churches we are to feed the sheep what they need and not what tickles the ears.

My prayer this morning is that all those brethren out there who are elders of true Baptist churches will heed the warnings of the Apostle Paul and flee false doctrine and preach the whole counsel of God each and every time they preach before the flock they are made overseers of by our Lord Jesus Christ.

Praise ye the Lord!!!
