Luke 12:4-5
“4And I say unto you my friends, Be not afraid of them that
kill the body, and after that have no more that they can do.
5But I will forewarn you whom ye shall fear: Fear him, which
after he hath killed hath power to cast into hell; yea, I say unto you, Fear
him.”
As Jesus was preparing His disciples for the ministry, He
often warned them that their life as followers of Him would not be physically
easy. But, He encouraged them by reminding them that no matter the physical
cost, their soul could not be touched. All the persecution and torments they
would suffer would be because the world hated Him first and hated them because
of their stand for Him.
When there is a threat of bodily harm to us or someone close
to us, our first reaction is fear of the perpetrator. It is a reaction that
comes natural to us. We have been taught to fear certain things and certain
types of people from our youth. Yet, our Lord instructs us to step away from
what we have been taught and from what seems to come natural and fear only God.
In all reality, the child of God has nothing to fear in this
life if he is following the Lord. The fear we have of God is a reverence and
respect of His authority. It is a sign of our deepest love for our Heavenly
Father. It is likened to a child having respect and fear of their parent. We
must remember it is only Him whom we have to answer for whatever we do and say.
As God's elect, we know He will lead us and guide us through
this life. Even through trial and tribulations, when we thing all is lost and
we are at our lowest, He have that blessed hope that our Lord is there with us.
We have that promise from Him that all things, no matter how good or bad, are
for His glory and our good. All He requires is that we follow Christ.
O child of God, where are your thoughts today? Whom do ye
fear? Are you following Christ or yourself or someone else? Look to Christ in
all things!!! Pray without ceasing and seek His face in whatever comes your
way.
Praise ye the Lord!!!
