Matthew 7:24-29
“24 Therefore whosoever heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them, I will liken him unto a wise man, which built his house upon a rock:
25 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell not: for it was founded upon a rock.
26 And every one that heareth these sayings of mine, and doeth them not, shall be likened unto a foolish man, which built his house upon the sand:
27 And the rain descended, and the floods came, and the winds blew, and beat upon that house; and it fell: and great was the fall of it.
28 And it came to pass, when Jesus had ended these sayings, the people were astonished at his doctrine:
29 For he taught them as one having authority, and not as the scribes.”

Which are you? Have you built upon the Rock which is Christ? Or on the sands of this world? Do you follow Jesus or man? Notice in verse 29 at who has authority. The Son of God not man(scribes).

Psalm 118:4-6
“Let them now that fear the Lord say, that his mercy endureth for ever. I called upon the Lord in distress: the Lord answered me, and set me in a large place. The Lord is on my side; I will not fear: what can man do unto me?”

Romans 8:12-17
“12 Therefore, brethren, we are debtors, not to the flesh, to live after the flesh.
13 For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
14 For as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.
15 For ye have not received the spirit of bondage again to fear; but ye have received the Spirit of adoption, whereby we cry, Abba, Father.
16 The Spirit itself beareth witness with our spirit, that we are the children of God:
17 And if children, then heirs; heirs of God, and joint-heirs with Christ; if so be that we suffer with him, that we may be also glorified together.”

John 5:8-9
“8 Jesus saith unto him, Rise, take up thy bed, and walk.
9 And immediately the man was made whole, and took up his bed, and walked: and on the same day was the sabbath.”

Our Lord teaches us that we must walk by faith and not by sight. As it was with the man in the verses above. When the Lord gave a command this man was immediately made whole and followed the Lord's command. It mattered not what day of the week it was or who was watching or what condition he was in. By faith, he followed the Lord's command.
Often times the Lord gives us a command to follow and we lolly gag around and kick the dirt as a child being told it is time to leave the playground. All because it is not what we want. But, if our faith were on the Lord as it should be, His wants would be our wants. We would be in harmony with our Lord concerning what He has for us. Instead we put or wants and the lust of this life before what our Lord has for us.
So, do we walk by faith or by sight? Do we take up our bed and walk or do we lie there in our self pity and wonder why the Lord refuses to heal? But, remember, following the Lord must be done in truth. Saying we are following the Lord and doing it in such away that goes against His Word is no better than not following.

Psalm 90:9-12
“For all our days are passed away in thy wrath: we spend our years as a tale that is told. The days of our years are threescore years and ten; and if by reason of strength they be fourscore years, yet is their strength labour and sorrow; for it is soon cut off, and we fly away. Who knoweth the power of thine anger? even according to thy fear, so is thy wrath. So teach us to number our days, that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

Psalm 141:1-5
“Lord, I cry unto thee: make haste unto me; give ear unto my voice, when I cry unto thee. Let my prayer be set forth before thee as incense; and the lifting up of my hands as the evening sacrifice. Set a watch, O Lord, before my mouth; keep the door of my lips. Incline not my heart to any evil thing, to practise wicked works with men that work iniquity: and let me not eat of their dainties. Let the righteous smite me; it shall be a kindness: and let him reprove me; it shall be an excellent oil, which shall not break my head: for yet my prayer also shall be in their calamities.”

Proverbs 21:1
“The king's heart is in the hand of the Lord, as the rivers of water: he turneth it whithersoever he will.”

Some years ago I heard a man say this verse only applied to the king in the time in which the verse was written. But, even read in it's context we see no indication of that. And if that were a true statement, does that mean the Lord only dealt in the life of king Solomon in such a way? Well, of course not. We read all throughout God's Word where the Lord deals with all His creatures in such a way as this. Man's refusal of God being Sovereign over everything in heaven and earth is more of man's futile attempt to bring glory to the creature instead of where it belongs, to the Creator.
Yes, the Lord even controls heart of our world leaders. Even those who are not His children. Remember Pharaoh? God said He hardened the heart of Pharaoh. Remember in Jeremiah where the Lord gave the Prophet Jeremiah all the “I will” verses of all the things He was going to bring upon Judah and the city of Jerusalem at the hand of the armies of the north? Remember how God gave Paul opportunity to preach the gospel to the leaders at the temple in Jerusalem, to two different Roman governors, to king Agrippa, and finally all the way to Caesar.
Whether man likes it or not God is all Sovereign. Over everything in His creation. Key word there “HIS” creation.

Isaiah 6:1-3
1 In the year that king Uzziah died I saw also the Lord sitting upon a throne, high and lifted up, and his train filled the temple.
2 Above it stood the seraphims: each one had six wings; with twain he covered his face, and with twain he covered his feet, and with twain he did fly.
3 And one cried unto another, and said, Holy, holy, holy, is the Lord of hosts: the whole earth is full of his glory.”

Romans 9:20-24
“20 Nay but, O man, who art thou that repliest against God? Shall the thing formed say to him that formed it, Why hast thou made me thus?
21 Hath not the potter power over the clay, of the same lump to make one vessel unto honour, and another unto dishonour?
22 What if God, willing to shew his wrath, and to make his power known, endured with much longsuffering the vessels of wrath fitted to destruction:
23 And that he might make known the riches of his glory on the vessels of mercy, which he had afore prepared unto glory,
24 Even us, whom he hath called, not of the Jews only, but also of the Gentiles?”

As mere humans we have no right to question whatever God has chosen for us in this life. Especially for those of us who are His children. We must remember who is the creature and who is the Creator? Who is the Potter and who is the clay? Who is the Father and who are His sons and daughters? It is only for us to follow as He leads.

Luke 10:30-37
“30 And Jesus answering said, A certain man went down from Jerusalem to Jericho, and fell among thieves, which stripped him of his raiment, and wounded him, and departed, leaving him half dead.
31 And by chance there came down a certain priest that way: and when he saw him, he passed by on the other side.
32 And likewise a Levite, when he was at the place, came and looked on him, and passed by on the other side.
33 But a certain Samaritan, as he journeyed, came where he was: and when he saw him, he had compassion on him,
34 And went to him, and bound up his wounds, pouring in oil and wine, and set him on his own beast, and brought him to an inn, and took care of him.
35 And on the morrow when he departed, he took out two pence, and gave them to the host, and said unto him, Take care of him; and whatsoever thou spendest more, when I come again, I will repay thee.
36 Which now of these three, thinkest thou, was neighbour unto him that fell among the thieves?
37 And he said, He that shewed mercy on him. Then said Jesus unto him, Go, and do thou likewise.”

Philippians 2:1-11
“1 If there be therefore any consolation in Christ, if any comfort of love, if any fellowship of the Spirit, if any bowels and mercies,
2 Fulfil ye my joy, that ye be likeminded, having the same love, being of one accord, of one mind.
3 Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory; but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves.
4 Look not every man on his own things, but every man also on the things of others.
5 Let this mind be in you, which was also in Christ Jesus:
6 Who, being in the form of God, thought it not robbery to be equal with God:
7 But made himself of no reputation, and took upon him the form of a servant, and was made in the likeness of men:
8 And being found in fashion as a man, he humbled himself, and became obedient unto death, even the death of the cross.
9 Wherefore God also hath highly exalted him, and given him a name which is above every name:
10 That at the name of Jesus every knee should bow, of things in heaven, and things in earth, and things under the earth;
11 And that every tongue should confess that Jesus Christ is Lord, to the glory of God the Father.”

James 4:13-17
“13 Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain:
14 Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away.
15 For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that.
16 But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil.
17 Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”

Could this be God's take on New Years Resolutions? We don't know about tomorrow. We are just to live from day to day. We are to live for the Lord from day to day. The only thing we know for certain is that our Lord will return for His people. But until that day comes, from now to that day, we know not what His plan is for us other than we are commanded to follow Him and Him only. We cannot and should not make promises or resolutions we have no control over or have no intentions of keeping in the first place.
Follow Christ. He will guide you. Just follow Him and Him alone.

Ecclesiastes 3:1-9
“1 To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven:
2 A time to be born, and a time to die; a time to plant, and a time to pluck up that which is planted;
3 A time to kill, and a time to heal; a time to break down, and a time to build up;
4 A time to weep, and a time to laugh; a time to mourn, and a time to dance;
5 A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together; a time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing;
