1 John 5:6-13

“6 This is he that came by water and blood, even Jesus Christ; not by water only, but by water and blood. And it is the Spirit that beareth witness, because the Spirit is truth.

7 For there are three that bear record in heaven, the Father, the Word, and the Holy Ghost: and these three are one.

8 And there are three that bear witness in earth, the Spirit, and the water, and the blood: and these three agree in one.

9 If we receive the witness of men, the witness of God is greater: for this is the witness of God which he hath testified of his Son.

10 He that believeth on the Son of God hath the witness in himself: he that believeth not God hath made him a liar; because he believeth not the record that God gave of his Son.

11 And this is the record, that God hath given to us eternal life, and this life is in his Son.

12 He that hath the Son hath life; and he that hath not the Son of God hath not life.

13 These things have I written unto you that believe on the name of the Son of God; that ye may know that ye have eternal life, and that ye may believe on the name of the Son of God.”

Read verse 10 very carefully. Before our salvation, our unbelief makes God a liar because we believe not the gospel of His Son, Jesus Christ. A thought that should strike fear in the very heart of any lost soul who reads this verse. To know we make the Creator of everything a liar because of our unbelief. What more damning accusation could there be against one who has refused to believe on the very Son of God?

Mark 16:16

“He that believeth and is baptized shall be saved; but he that believeth not shall be damned.”

Spiritually speaking there are only two classes of people in the eyes of God. Those that believeth and those that believeth not. The saved and the damned. Which are you?

1 John 1:8-10

“8 If we say that we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us.

9 If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins, and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

10 If we say that we have not sinned, we make him a liar, and his word is not in us.”

John 3:16-18

“16 For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life.

17 For God sent not his Son into the world to condemn the world; but that the world through him might be saved.

18 He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God.”

All the fancies and fun times this world has to offer are but for a short time. They offer no real hope of joy and peace but only lead to destruction. It is only by believing on Jesus Christ that we have real hope. Not just joy and peace in this life but for life eternal. Without Jesus Christ all hopes we may have in this life will be dashed upon entering into eternity at death. If the Lord is calling you today then why do you wait? Believe on the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and be saved!!!

John 16:33

“These things I have spoken unto you, that in me ye might have peace. In the world ye shall have tribulation: but be of good cheer; I have overcome the world.”

How often we forget where or from whom our true peace comes. In this year of so much turmoil God has proven to His people again that we cannot rely on our governments for our well-being and for true peace in this life. When the whole world seems to be against us. When our closest friends and family hide in fear of man made evils and we are ridiculed for making a stand for the truths of our Heavenly Father. Where do we turn? Do we follow the ever changing whims of our leaders whose only desire is the silence the Word of God? No! We look to the King of kings and the Lord of lords for our peace in the trials and tribulations we go through in this life. It is only through Him and by Him that His people can be of good cheer for it is Jesus Christ who has overcome the world!!!

Jeremiah 6:15-17

15 Were they ashamed when they had committed abomination? nay, they were not at all ashamed, neither could they blush: therefore they shall fall among them that fall: at the time that I visit them they shall be cast down, saith the Lord.

16 Thus saith the Lord, Stand ye in the ways, and see, and ask for the old paths, where is the good way, and walk therein, and ye shall find rest for your souls. But they said, We will not walk therein.

17 Also I set watchmen over you, saying, Hearken to the sound of the trumpet. But they said, We will not hearken.”

As we near the end of another year, and as we are in the midst of the time of year that many will say there is a time of peace, we see anything but peace in our land. We are a country where God's people want to claim “One Nation Under God”, yet have a greater desire to live in abomination to the God they want to claim.

We have seen the “old paths” and old ways being destroyed by the wicked and many of God's people follow right along. We have witnessed a lack of faith in God amongst His churches when it came to an illness that has proven to be no worse than any other we have seen. And like Israel, God has sent watchmen who have sounded the trumpet of warning but the people, God's people, “will not hearken.”

The Godly heritage and foundations of our once great Republic are being ripped to shreds by those who desire to see an end to God's very memory among our nation. They desire a new nation without God or His Son Jesus Christ. And sadly God's own people seem to love to have it so. We are so wrapped up in our abominations we no longer care for the “old paths”. In the name of “Peace” we have given away all the hard fought liberties and freedoms we as a people have taken for granted. Will we fall like Israel and Judah? We are coming, rapidly, upon a day when I believe we will find out.

Even so, come, Lord Jesus”!!!

Psalm 119:33-40

33 Teach me, O Lord, the way of thy statutes; and I shall keep it unto the end.

34 Give me understanding, and I shall keep thy law; yea, I shall observe it with my whole heart.

35 Make me to go in the path of thy commandments; for therein do I delight.

36 Incline my heart unto thy testimonies, and not to covetousness.

37 Turn away mine eyes from beholding vanity; and quicken thou me in thy way.

38 Stablish thy word unto thy servant, who is devoted to thy fear.

39 Turn away my reproach which I fear: for thy judgments are good.

40 Behold, I have longed after thy precepts: quicken me in thy righteousness.”

2 Thessalonians 2:13-17

13 But we are bound to give thanks alway to God for you, brethren beloved of the Lord, because God hath from the beginning chosen you to salvation through sanctification of the Spirit and belief of the truth:

14 Whereunto he called you by our gospel, to the obtaining of the glory of our Lord Jesus Christ.

15 Therefore, brethren, stand fast, and hold the traditions which ye have been taught, whether by word, or our epistle.

16 Now our Lord Jesus Christ himself, and God, even our Father, which hath loved us, and hath given us everlasting consolation and good hope through grace,

17 Comfort your hearts, and stablish you in every good word and work.”

Revelation 2:10

Fear none of those things which thou shalt suffer: behold, the devil shall cast some of you into prison, that ye may be tried; and ye shall have tribulation ten days: be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life.”

With all the promises our Heavenly Father has given why do we still fear the things of this life more than Him?

I believe the answer is found in John 14:15-17: “15 If ye love me, keep my commandments. 16 And I will pray the Father, and he shall give you another Comforter, that he may abide with you for ever; 17 Even the Spirit of truth; whom the world cannot receive, because it seeth him not, neither knoweth him: but ye know him; for he dwelleth with you, and shall be in you.”

How is your love for the Lord today? Enough that you are following His commandments? Or have you forsaken the One whom you claim to love? Are you faithful unto death in Christ or more faithful to your life in sin?

We all need to consider these things.

24 For we are saved by hope: but hope that is seen is not hope: for what a man seeth, why doth he yet hope for?

Proverbs 3:33

“The curse of the Lord is in the house of the wicked: but he blesseth the habitation of the just.”

As sinful men, oftentimes we look at the physical and not the Spiritual in matters. How often we look at the wicked of this world and covet what they have in physical possessions and wealth and health. Yet, we must understand what they have here in this life is the best they will ever have. This is their best life now. For once they leave this life all their riches and fame and health will be burned up.

But for the child of God, though we may suffer trials and tribulations in this life we know, without a doubt, that day is coming when we will share in the inheritance our Heavenly Father has for His children. An inheritance that is much more than any rich man could amass here on this earth. And it will not be temporary, but rather eternal!!!

20 Which sometime were disobedient, when once the longsuffering of God waited in the days of Noah, while the ark was a preparing, wherein few, that is, eight souls were saved by water.

8 When thou art bidden of any man to a wedding, sit not down in the highest room; lest a more honourable man than thou be bidden of him;

9 And he that bade thee and him come and say to thee, Give this man place; and thou begin with shame to take the lowest room.

10 But when thou art bidden, go and sit down in the lowest room; that when he that bade thee cometh, he may say unto thee, Friend, go up higher: then shalt thou have worship in the presence of them that sit at meat with thee.

11 For whosoever exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.

12 Then said he also to him that bade him, When thou makest a dinner or a supper, call not thy friends, nor thy brethren, neither thy kinsmen, nor thy rich neighbours; lest they also bid thee again, and a recompence be made thee.

13 But when thou makest a feast, call the poor, the maimed, the lame, the blind:

1 Corinthians 2:1-5

“1 And I, brethren, when I came to you, came not with excellency of speech or of wisdom, declaring unto you the testimony of God.

2 For I determined not to know any thing among you, save Jesus Christ, and him crucified.

3 And I was with you in weakness, and in fear, and in much trembling.

4 And my speech and my preaching was not with enticing words of man's wisdom, but in demonstration of the Spirit and of power:

5 That your faith should not stand in the wisdom of men, but in the power of God.”

As with Moses in Exodus 4, Paul claimed to not be an eloquent speaker nor a highly intelligent man. This two giants among the saints were used greatly by God to lead his people in the time God appointed for them. Yet they both knew and were humbled by the fact that it was only by the grace of God that they were able to do what they did for the Lord in the ministry He gave unto them. Let us not forget from whom our speech and knowledge and wisdom comes from in those times when we are given the opportunity to share the gospel of Jesus Christ with a lost and dying world.

Luke 18:9-14

“9 And he spake this parable unto certain which trusted in themselves that they were righteous, and despised others:

10 Two men went up into the temple to pray; the one a Pharisee, and the other a publican.

11 The Pharisee stood and prayed thus with himself, God, I thank thee, that I am not as other men are, extortioners, unjust, adulterers, or even as this publican.

12 I fast twice in the week, I give tithes of all that I possess.

13 And the publican, standing afar off, would not lift up so much as his eyes unto heaven, but smote upon his breast, saying, God be merciful to me a sinner.

14 I tell you, this man went down to his house justified rather than the other: for every one that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”

One of the joys of being the pastor of one of the Lord's churches has been witnessing how most of our members live their lives. It is my belief in our day and time you will find a higher percentage of humble believers in the small congregations than in the larger congregations. And we are not void of our own “Pharisees”, even in the other churches we share close fellowship with I see very few. What a blessing it is to be surround by so many who think more highly of our Lord and Savior and His people than they do of themselves.

It always saddens me to hear a believer who is a braggart when it comes to the things they have been blessed with by the Lord but will seek for themselves the glory and then looks down on those who do not have so much. And even more so saddened by a man in the ministry who is a braggart and is not humbled by what the Lord has done for him in the ministry but will rather exalt himself. “For everyone that exalteth himself shall be abased; and he that humbleth himself shall be exalted.”

11 Moreover by them is thy servant warned: and in keeping of them there is great reward.

12 Who can understand his errors? cleanse thou me from secret faults.

13 Keep back thy servant also from presumptuous sins; let them not have dominion over me: then shall I be upright, and I shall be innocent from the great transgression.

15 By him therefore let us offer the sacrifice of praise to God continually, that is, the fruit of our lips giving thanks to his name.

16 But to do good and to communicate forget not: for with such sacrifices God is well pleased.”

As children of God our main goal in life should be to do whatever it takes to please our Heavenly Father. Yet, often times, it appears to those around us that we know not who we serve. Often times, the fruit of our lips is complaining and/or fear about what is going on around us. Often times, we seem to be more into following the world than following after our Heavenly Father. Where is our giving of thanks to God? Where is our sacrifices of praise for the One who saved our unworthy souls from our sins and gave us eternal life?

Let us not forget who we serve and that it is only God who deserves our sacrifices of praise and our giving of thanks for all things.

2 Chronicles 16:12

And Asa in the thirty and ninth year of his reign was diseased in his feet, until his disease was exceeding great: yet in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians.”

How often we seek the help of physicians before seeking the help of the Lord. In our lack of faith and spiritual sickness the ways of the world seem to overtake us even in our greatest times of need.

Now, some may nitpick and say the disease of Asa was not the same we have today. But, the example given in this passage and many others throughout God's Word is not the disease itself but man's refusal to look to the Lord first before going to the physicians. Notice the fault is not with the physicians, but rather with the man who chose to seek their help before seeking the help of the Lord. The fact of the matter is that if Asa had sought the Lord first the Lord may have sent him to the physician who could best treat his disease. Instead Asa chose to seek the physicians before the Lord and, if you read the rest of the story, you see where Asa was not cured but died.

Throughout time God has used disease in many different ways with His people. Sometimes God brings healing, sometimes not. Even disease whether healed or not is in God's hands. We can go to the best physicians and still not receiving healing if it is not God's will for us. The Lord may use the disease in one of His children as an example for others. How that child of God reacts to that illness could be a strong witness to others. It maybe to draw that sick one closer to the Lord themselves or it could be to draw one of God's elect unto salvation. Either way God receives the glory.

In times of disease God's own people often forget we have the Great Physician, Jesus Christ.

Please, understand, I am not saying don't go to the doctor. What I am saying is seek the Lord first. Ask the Lord to guide you as to who to call and on whom to rely. Then ask Him to give you peace about it all. Don't be like Asa, “yet in his disease he sought not to the Lord, but to the physicians.”

45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.

46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?

47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so?

48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.”

Psalm 31:10-14

“10 For my life is spent with grief, and my years with sighing: my strength faileth because of mine iniquity, and my bones are consumed.

11 I was a reproach among all mine enemies, but especially among my neighbours, and a fear to mine acquaintance: they that did see me without fled from me.

12 I am forgotten as a dead man out of mind: I am like a broken vessel.

13 For I have heard the slander of many: fear was on every side: while they took counsel together against me, they devised to take away my life.

14 But I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God.”

King David suffered greatly in his life. While he was king of Israel his own son brought false accusations against and took the throne from him for a time. Some of the king's closest friends turned against him and he was forced into hiding. Many of the Psalms he wrote are from this period of time, as is our text this morning.

Notice how, even in the deepest and darkest times in David's life he still trusted in the Lord. Every Psalm he wrote during this period in his life he starts out telling of his plight from his enemies. At times, feeling sorry for himself. Many times it was at the orders of his own flesh and blood. But he always winds up praising the Lord and telling how the Lord brought him through every situation.

How are we today? Do we trust the Lord as we should? In our deepest darkest hour can we truly say “But I trusted in thee, O Lord: I said, Thou art my God.”

1 John 3:1-2

1 Behold, what manner of love the Father hath bestowed upon us, that we should be called the sons of God: therefore the world knoweth us not, because it knew him not.

2 Beloved, now are we the sons of God, and it doth not yet appear what we shall be: but we know that, when he shall appear, we shall be like him; for we shall see him as he is.”

Proverbs 2:1-5

“1 My son, if thou wilt receive my words, and hide my commandments with thee;

2 So that thou incline thine ear unto wisdom, and apply thine heart to understanding;

3 Yea, if thou criest after knowledge, and liftest up thy voice for understanding;

4 If thou seekest her as silver, and searchest for her as for hid treasures;

5 Then shalt thou understand the fear of the Lord, and find the knowledge of God.”

Romans 10:8-11

8 But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, even in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach;

9 That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.

10 For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.

11 For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”

Oh dear friend, have you believed? Have you made that all important confession? If so then where is thine witness of these things? Why do we appear unto the world as ones who art ashamed of our Lord and Savior? If we truly believe on Him then where is our witness of Him?

For the scripture saith, Whosoever believeth on him shall not be ashamed.”

Colossians 3:1-2

1 If ye then be risen with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ sitteth on the right hand of God.

2 Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”

So, then, why do we concern ourselves so much with the things of this life? Our hope and peace is in our faith of things to come. Or maybe it's due to our lack of faith in things to come? Where is your faith today?

Proverbs 14:25

A true witness delivereth souls: but a deceitful witness speaketh lies.”

How is your witness for Jesus Christ today? Do others see Him in you or do they hear you claim His name but see your works of unrighteousness? Are we not commanded to live our lives as witnesses for our Lord and Savior? Then what is the problem? Why do we not as we are commanded?

Follow the Lord. Do His bidding. Let others know of the blessings of our Lord and Savior upon our lives and live the example He requires of His children. Our lives should be all about Him and not about us.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

1 Samuel 12:24

Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart: for consider how great things he hath done for you.”

Have we truly considered the great things the Lord has done for us? If so then why do we fear any other but Him? Can man or the things of man provide for us as has our Heavenly Father?

The problems we see in our society today is due to God's having more fear of the things of this life than they do of their Heavenly Father.

It is only by the fear of the Lord that we can have true peace and hope. A peace and a hope this world knows not of.

Only fear the Lord, and serve him in truth with all your heart:”.

Acts 10:34-43

34 Then Peter opened his mouth, and said, Of a truth I perceive that God is no respecter of persons:

35 But in every nation he that feareth him, and worketh righteousness, is accepted with him.

36 The word which God sent unto the children of Israel, preaching peace by Jesus Christ: (he is Lord of all:)

37 That word, I say, ye know, which was published throughout all Judaea, and began from Galilee, after the baptism which John preached;

38 How God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Ghost and with power: who went about doing good, and healing all that were oppressed of the devil; for God was with him.

39 And we are witnesses of all things which he did both in the land of the Jews, and in Jerusalem; whom they slew and hanged on a tree:

40 Him God raised up the third day, and shewed him openly;

41 Not to all the people, but unto witnesses chosen before God, even to us, who did eat and drink with him after he rose from the dead.

42 And he commanded us to preach unto the people, and to testify that it is he which was ordained of God to be the Judge of quick and dead.

43 To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins.”

1 Corinthians 1:21

For after that in the wisdom of God the world by wisdom knew not God, it pleased God by the foolishness of preaching to save them that believe.”

This past weekend my wife and I went to a Bible Conference in the hills of West Virginia. And Oh what a glorious time we had!!! But, many of our family and friends don't understand the excitement we share with the people of God at these meetings. Sadly, there are those in the religious world who honestly believe a man without a “formal” religious school education with lots of letters after his name or who is an eloquent speaker using words far above the knowledge of the audience or one who has traveled the world over and has unending stories of his travels to tell or a combination of all of the above has no business preaching the wisdom of God.

Yet, this past weekend we witnessed men, Godly men, most of whom are from the hills of Appalachia stand and preach the wisdom of God the religious world considers foolishness. Everyone spoke on a level the common man and woman could clearly understand. Everyone had the gospel of Jesus Christ in his sermon. Everyone had our Lord and Savior and His Bride as the main topic of his sermon. But according to many they don't have the wisdom nor do they have the education to speak on such matters.

So while most are sitting listening to pretty speeches and doctrines of devils there is still a small remnant who have a desire to hear the foolishness of preaching from men who are full of the wisdom of God.

Praise God for the wisdom He gives His men to preach in these last days!!!

Isaiah 51:6-8

“6 Lift up your eyes to the heavens, and look upon the earth beneath: for the heavens shall vanish away like smoke, and the earth shall wax old like a garment, and they that dwell therein shall die in like manner: but my salvation shall be for ever, and my righteousness shall not be abolished.

7 Hearken unto me, ye that know righteousness, the people in whose heart is my law; fear ye not the reproach of men, neither be ye afraid of their revilings.

8 For the moth shall eat them up like a garment, and the worm shall eat them like wool: but my righteousness shall be for ever, and my salvation from generation to generation.”

Psalm 121:2

“My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

What will it take for God's people to understand our help is not in the politicians of this world but in our Heavenly Father? Even when there is a wicked king in power God will use him for His glory and our good.

Deuteronomy 18:9-16

9 When thou art come into the land which the Lord thy God giveth thee, thou shalt not learn to do after the abominations of those nations.

10 There shall not be found among you any one that maketh his son or his daughter to pass through the fire, or that useth divination, or an observer of times, or an enchanter, or a witch.

11 Or a charmer, or a consulter with familiar spirits, or a wizard, or a necromancer.

12 For all that do these things are an abomination unto the Lord: and because of these abominations the Lord thy God doth drive them out from before thee.

13 Thou shalt be perfect with the Lord thy God.

14 For these nations, which thou shalt possess, hearkened unto observers of times, and unto diviners: but as for thee, the Lord thy God hath not suffered thee so to do.

15 The Lord thy God will raise up unto thee a Prophet from the midst of thee, of thy brethren, like unto me; unto him ye shall hearken;

16 According to all that thou desiredst of the Lord thy God in Horeb in the day of the assembly, saying, Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God, neither let me see this great fire any more, that I die not.”

Today is that day in every year that the world celebrates the worship of demons. If you disagree with that statement I challenge you to take God's Word and show me where it is not just that. It is a sad thing and an extremely poor witness for God's people to follow after these things. As in our text verses, God expects His children to follow Him and His ways and not the ways of the world and the devil. Yet, for some it has become a time of “fun” and supposedly “all for the kids”. But our Lord has warned us many times over in His Word to not follow after the world in these very observances. Notice in verse 12 God says they “are an abomination unto the Lord”. What else do we need to know? Then look in verse 15. “The Lord thy God will raise up a Prophet”. Notice the word “Prophet” is written as a proper name. God His speaking of the Messiah here. His Son, Jesus Christ. He goes on to say in verse 15 “unto him ye shall hearken”. Is this not the same thing we see Jesus say in the New Testament? Is this not the same thing He commanded through the writers who wrote to His churches in the New Testament? Then why is it today that so many of God's children and even many of His churches celebrate the greatest show of evil when it comes around to this time of year?

In many ways God's children today have forgotten their godly heritage as di Israel in the Old Testament. We wonder why evil seems to be prevailing in our culture and society today? Look at the denial of the Lord from His own people. Go back and study the history of the nation of Israel in the Old Testament. See how every time they followed after the false gods of the nations they conquered and those of their neighbors God brought chastisement upon them. Are we any better than they in that we do not believe God would not chastise His own people today?

We are commanded to follow the Lord in all things. We are to be light as He is light. Flee the darkness and follow the Light of Jesus Christ!!!

13 Those that be planted in the house of the Lord shall flourish in the courts of our God.

15 To shew that the Lord is upright: he is my rock, and there is no unrighteousness in him.”

Job 28:20-28

20 Whence then cometh wisdom? and where is the place of understanding?

21 Seeing it is hid from the eyes of all living, and kept close from the fowls of the air.

22 Destruction and death say, We have heard the fame thereof with our ears.

23 God understandeth the way thereof, and he knoweth the place thereof.

24 For he looketh to the ends of the earth, and seeth under the whole heaven;

25 To make the weight for the winds; and he weigheth the waters by measure.

26 When he made a decree for the rain, and a way for the lightning of the thunder:

27 Then did he see it, and declare it; he prepared it, yea, and searched it out.

28 And unto man he said, Behold, the fear of the Lord, that is wisdom; and to depart from evil is understanding.”

John 4:30-38

30 Then they went out of the city, and came unto him.

31 In the mean while his disciples prayed him, saying, Master, eat.

32 But he said unto them, I have meat to eat that ye know not of.

33 Therefore said the disciples one to another, Hath any man brought him ought to eat?

34 Jesus saith unto them, My meat is to do the will of him that sent me, and to finish his work.

35 Say not ye, There are yet four months, and then cometh harvest? behold, I say unto you, Lift up your eyes, and look on the fields; for they are white already to harvest.

36 And he that reapeth receiveth wages, and gathereth fruit unto life eternal: that both he that soweth and he that reapeth may rejoice together.

37 And herein is that saying true, One soweth, and another reapeth.

38 I sent you to reap that whereon ye bestowed no labour: other men laboured, and ye are entered into their labours.”
