Psalm 136:1

“O give thanks unto the Lord; for he is good: for his mercy endureth for ever.”

In Psalm 136 we see a whole chapter devoted to reminding us that God's mercy is everlasting. The words “for his mercy endureth for ever.” are at the end of each of the 26 verses. Do you think the Lord might have been wanting to get a point across to the readers?

This very quote seems to be a favorite of king David as several of the psalms he wrote start with or contain this very phrase. If we look at the life of this most favored of the kings of Israel, we would see he certainly knew something about the mercy of God upon his own life.

We also see a great example in the life of David. Look at all the times he wrote of giving thanks to the Lord for His goodness toward him.

How is it with us today? Are we giving thanks to the Lord for His goodness? Are others seeing our example of such? Certainly we have experienced the mercy of God upon our lives. We have much to be thankful to God for. But do we show that thankfulness?

Praise ye the Lord!!!
