Morning Devotional December 30, 2017

2 Timothy 3:10-12
“10But thou hast fully known my doctrine, manner of life, purpose, faith, longsuffering, charity, patience,
11Persecutions, afflictions, which came unto me at Antioch, at Iconium, at Lystra; what persecutions I endured: but out of them all the Lord delivered me.
12Yea, and all that will live godly in Christ Jesus shall suffer persecution.”

In Paul's second letter to the young preacher Timothy, Paul reminds Timothy of what, he, Paul has stood for and preached in the ministry. Paul also reminds Timothy of how he was made to suffer for what he preached.
As Paul was training Timothy for the ministry and particularly for the position of pastor in one of the Lord's churches, Paul reminds Timothy that if he will stand for the truth and preach the truth he will suffer persecutions but the Lord will deliver him.
For those of us who have been called of our Lord to preach and/or teach God's Word it is not always sunshine and roses. Even for those who it seems on the outside looking in to be prosperous. Whether in health, wealth, and all things physical. If they have been preaching the truth of God's Word. If they have been standing in the faith and fighting the good fight. There are persecutions. We don't always see the depression or the internal turmoil a man goes through when he cares so greatly for the people the Lord has given him charge over. We don't always see the strain these persecutions can put on his marriage and his family and friends. Yet he trudges on because he knows his duty to the Lord and to the Lord's people.
As the man of God preaches and teaches service after service. To see the people in open rebellion against the very Word of God that he has spent so much time in preparing to bring to them. To sit back and watch as those very souls he has preached go out into the world with never a care for what he has warned of.
O what a wretched lot we are!!! To go out in open rebellion against what the man of God has taught and warned. What a disgrace we can be to the Lord's church. His Bride!!! What a disgrace to our Heavenly Father!!! At times it is as though we care not for the love of our Lord and Savior. O how we can grieve the Holy Spirit with our sinful ways!!!
O child of God, don't be the a part of the persecution of your pastor or teacher. Listen to the message our Lord has given him. Heed the warnings he brings from God's Word. Pray for him. Pray God will guide him and use him to preach the truth and to shun fables.
Preachers/teachers, stand for the truth. Put away the doctrines that tickle the ears of the hearers and feed their worldly lust. Preach the whole council of God. Be instant in season and out of season. Preach the truth in love and when the persecution comes stand firm and seek the Lord for comfort and guidance and strength.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Psalm 42:11
“Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope thou in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”

O child of God, are you feeling cast down and cast out? Does it seem that others are against you and/or will have nothing to do with you? Are there problems at home or on the job that are a great burden? Does it seem no one cares and everything you do seems wrong?
The answer to these questions and more can be in ourselves. Are we following the Lord? Are we praying without ceasing? Are we studying His Word? Are we seeking Him in all things?
We may say “Yes, yes, I am doing these things. But no one seems to listen. No one seems to care. Even my friends and family seem to be against me.” But where is our hope? Who are we truly looking to? Is our hope in men or in God? Are we looking to men or are we looking to God?
Are we searching for what is below or for what is above? Colossians 3:2 “Set your affection on things above, not on things on the earth.”
As the Psalmist wrote in our text verse; “hope thou in God:”. Praise Him who is our only true hope. Praise Him who is our Great Comforter. Seek His face in time of trouble and tribulation. Remember God tests His children with trials. To strengthen our faith in Him and to teach us to follow Him and Him only.
O child of God, when all seems lost and when we think we have no place to turn. Look up for your redemption draweth nigh!!!
Psalm 121:2 “My help cometh from the Lord, which made heaven and earth.”

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Joshua 24:14-15
“Now therefore fear the Lord, and serve him in sincerity and in truth: and put away the gods which your fathers served on the other side of the flood, and in Egypt; and serve ye the Lord. And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

In Joshua's day we read of there being a presence of the gods that were worshiped before the flood. We read of where the people were worshiping the gods of Egypt and the gods of the people who possessed the Promised Land before God turned it over to Israel. God had given them bounty and prospered them. He protected them through their journey in the Wilderness. He had permitted them to conquer the giants in the land He gave them. All God asked of them was for them to serve Him. Yet, they still clung to false gods. False gods that could do know thing for them. False gods that demanded wickedness from them. False gods that taught false doctrine and lies. While God taught truth and righteousness.
We see so many of God's people today following after false gods. Whether it be the idols we make of our possessions or of our favorite activities to our own ideas on how to worship God Himself. God made it very clear in His Word what He expects from His people. Over and over again, He tells us to follow Him. We are told that if we love Him we will follow His commandments. But do we? Do we love our Lord and Savior as much as we claim? Do we love Him enough to drop everything we are doing and follow Him?
Can we truly say like Joshua “but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Job 40:1-2
“Moreover the Lord answered Job, and said, Shall he that contendeth with the Almighty instruct him? he that reproveth God, let him answer it.”

O what right do we have to question our Heavenly Father? How can we even think we can give Him instruction of any sort? God, the Creator of all things. God, the Lord and Savior of His elect people!!!
O what a sinful lot we are for thinking our ways are better than His. So sinful are His people it took the death, burial, and resurrection of His own Son to save us from our sins. It took God the Father offering His Son Jesus on the alter of sacrifice to atone for the sins that had us dead to Him.
God turned His back on His own Son as He suffered for the sins of a bunch of ungrateful wretches as us. O what love!!! O what compassion!!! O what a Savior!!!
O the love that our Lord and Savior bestowed upon His chosen people. Even knowing what a sorry lot we are He still loved us.
O child of God, where do you stand today? Are you following our Lord in all things? Are you seeking His will for you and your family? Follow Him!!! Stay in constant communion with our Heavenly Father. Seek His guidance then follow when He says follow.
Remember the love of God. Even in our deepest trials He is there. Even when we are down and out and everything and everyone seems against us, He is there. Loving us with an undying love. He is our only hope in this life filled with sin and disappointment. He is our Heavenly Father!!! He is our Lord and Savior!!! He is our Great Comforter!!!
Do we really think we know better than He?

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Morning Devotional December 10, 2017

Matthew 4:17
“From that time Jesus began to preach, and to say, Repent: for the kingdom of heaven is at hand.”

Mark 1:14-15
“Now after that John was put in prison, Jesus came into Galilee, preaching the gospel of the kingdom of God, And saying, The time is fulfilled, and the kingdom of God is at hand: repent ye, and believe the gospel.”

In these verses we see the beginning of Jesus' earthly ministry. John the Baptist has been put in prison. So now it is the time for Jesus to step up and into the lime light. From this time on Jesus will be the most popular speaker in all Israel until the day of His own death.
Notice what Jesus is preaching from the very beginning. Repentance. How often do we hear repentance preached today? Well, depending on who you are listening to and/or depending on what you want to listen to, probably not very much.
We see many a young preach come up and preach his first sermon and not many preach repentance first. Most try to impress by preaching something they think is a deep theological topic. As preachers I think most of us started this way. We tend to shy away from topics that would offend the Lord's people. But notice in these verses and in most of what our Lord preached while here on this earth, He preached to the lost. He preached to be saved you have to repent.
Does anything have to happen before repentance? Yes. Without regeneration there is no new birth and therefore there can be no repentance. Fore how can a man repent if he is not born again and have the desire to repent?
I encourage you all to think on these things. As ministers of God, are you preaching repentance? Are you preaching the commandments of Christ? Some will say “But the people will not hear those things.” or “I will most of my congregation if I preach those things.” Didn't Jesus loose people when He preached against sin? At one point they all left except the Apostles.
I encourage you all to think on these things. Seek the truth as you read God's Word. Pray without ceasing. Follow the commandments of our Lord and Savior.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Morning Devotional December 9, 2017

1 John 4:1-6
1Beloved, believe not every spirit, but try the spirits whether they are of God: because many false prophets are gone out into the world.
2Hereby know ye the Spirit of God: Every spirit that confesseth that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is of God:
3And every spirit that confesseth not that Jesus Christ is come in the flesh is not of God: and this is that spirit of antichrist, whereof ye have heard that it should come; and even now already is it in the world.
4Ye are of God, little children, and have overcome them: because greater is he that is in you, than he that is in the world.
5They are of the world: therefore speak they of the world, and the world heareth them.
6We are of God: he that knoweth God heareth us; he that is not of God heareth not us. Hereby know we the spirit of truth, and the spirit of error.”

We all have met people or have friends or family who claim to know Christ. Some of us may have even met those or know of those who claim to be ministers of Christ or have some other leadership role in a church. We know of whole churches who claim to be one a church of Jesus Christ. But where do they stand when we try the spirit or spirits they seem to follow? Are they following the Holy Spirit of God? Is there witness for the Christ of the Bible or the christ of their own lusts?
So many we see in the “Christian” world today claim the name of Christ but when compared to God's Word very little, if any, evidence is there of the truths of God's Word. In these verses like so many other places in God's Word, we see the Lord warning His people of false prophets. Those who seem to preach good but in reality preach false doctrine and the doctrines of devils.
Why is it that God gives so many warnings in His Word for false prophets? Why does God spend so much time and so much of His Holy Word on this topic? Even in the beginning days and years of the Lord's churches we read of these false preachers/teachers. So why would we think things would be any different today? Can we not see how much more wicked and evil the world has become. And not just the secular world. But also the so called “Christian” world.
With the advancements in technology in the past hundred years, we are now seeing an onslaught of false prophets. We are bombarded from every direction by those who have forsaken and distorted the truth of God's Word. And as sinful people we have fallen for so much of what our Lord declared to be false doctrine. In every aspect of our lives there are compromises we have made. There are times we feel ashamed or embarrassed to take a stand for that which our Lord has said over and over again is the truth.
O child of God, try the spirits. Walk in the light and the truth of our Lord and His commandments. Follow not after the temptations of false prophets. Flee the lusts of the flesh and the pride of life. Follow Christ not the world. Pray for our brothers and sisters who struggle with these things.
Pastors and teachers, forsake not the whole council of God!!! Preach the truth no matter the cost!!! Show God's people His love for them by always proclaiming the truth of His Word and refrain from fables and doctrines of devils. Be not ashamed to preach God's truths not how easy or difficult they seem to be.
In conclusion; pray without ceasing. Stay in constant communion with our Lord. If you love Him, follow His commandments. Be a witness for Christ and not for the world.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Joshua 24:15
“And if it seem evil unto you to serve the Lord, choose you this day whom ye will serve; whether the gods which your fathers served that were on the other side of the flood, or the gods of the Amorites, in whose land ye dwell: but as for me and my house, we will serve the Lord.”

O child of God, who will you serve today? Are the lust of the world and the pride of life more important to you than being in the congregation of the Lord today? Sunday sports? Time with family and/or friends? Sleep? Yard work? What will keep you from serving our Lord and Savior today?
I know there are those who physically can't be with one of the Lord's churches today. But how many of us have no real excuse?
O worship the Lord on the day He has set aside for us to do so!

Morning Devotional December 2, 2017

Acts 7:54
“When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.”

Just before this verse we see that great man of God, Stephen, give an oral history of the people of Israel to those men who have been stirred up by the likes of Saul(Paul). These men were the hierarchy of the Jews in that day. They have accused Stephen of speaking blasphemy against God and His Word. They have stirred up the people and are demanding the priest in the court to prosecute Stephen unto death.
What was Stephen speaking that so had these people in an uproar? Stephen was preaching the Gospel of Jesus Christ! With his preaching Stephen was telling the sins of the people and explaining that Christ was their only hope. Yet the people accused him of blasphemy.
With Stephen's oral history he has just given, they are cut to the heart because of the sins of their forefathers and even of themselves that he has pointed out. Stephen took them all the way back to Moses and the exodus from Egypt. As Jeremiah did in his day. They are reminded that their sins are nothing new. They are reminded that God has been long-suffering with His people. At anytime God had justification to destroy them all, but that was not His sovereign plan. God had chosen them to be His people and even though they continued to seek the lust of “Egypt” He still loved them.
All through history God has put men in place to prophesy and preach His Word. We see the Prophets of old. The Apostles. Even Christ Himself. Through out the Dark Ages. And in our day God still has men He uses to stand and preach the hard cold facts of His Word. Men that God uses to warn others of things to come. Men God uses to warn of the sins of God's people and churches. Men who, by God's grace, are not afraid to preach the whole council of God.
And just like in the days yore “When they heard these things, they were cut to the heart, and they gnashed on him with their teeth.”
O child of God, follow Christ!!! Listen to the ones whom our Lord sends to spread His message. Study what they write and say. Make sure who you are listening and reading are proclaiming the truth of God's Word. Before disagreeing with God's man, study what he has said. Search the scripture. Seek the face of the Lord in these matters. Be not hasty to condemn one on some tradition or thought. Give head to the Word of God on all matters. Then give God the glory when He opens your understanding to matters of contention!!!

Romans 5:1-5

1Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ:
2By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.
3And not only so, but we glory in tribulations also: knowing that tribulation worketh patience;
4And patience, experience; and experience, hope:
5And hope maketh not ashamed; because the love of God is shed abroad in our hearts by the Holy Ghost which is given unto us.”

1 Thessalonians 5:11
Wherefore comfort yourselves together, and edify one another, even as also ye do.”

In many places in His Word God commanded His people to be an encouragement to each other. That is not to say we are to glory in one's sin but when they are struggling with a matter in life. A trial from God Himself. If they are being persecuted for taking a stand for our Lord and His Word. Sometimes, as children of God we need a brother or sister to give us a pat on the back or a hug, a show of Christ like love for whatever is troubling us. Letting someone know we are praying for them and that they are in our thoughts and prayers can be all they need to hear for strength. Our Lord can and does use us in many ways to comfort one another.
O child of God, be a comfort to others in their time of need. If it is your time of need, do not be to prideful to ask our brothers and sisters for prayer and comfort. Count it a blessing from God to have others trust you enough to ask you for prayer. Count it a blessing from God when others see you struggle and let you know they pray for you.
O what a joy to serve the Lord by caring for His saints. Showing the love He gave the example of in His Word. Pray for one another!!! Pray without ceasing!!! Praise God for those who care enough to pray for you!!!

Psalm 18:49
Therefore will I give thanks unto thee, O Lord, among the heathen, and sing praises unto thy name.”

O what a prayer for the beginning of the week. Many of us work jobs in this life where we are exposed to the sins of the world. Many of the people we may work with have no care for the things of God and care not of how their sayings and ways may offend us or our Lord. But our Lord has given us what we need to battle through each day in this world. We have the whole suit armor and the weapons He has provided to fight against the spiritual evil we must deal with daily.
O child of God, if you struggle with your life in this world, study God's Word. Remember His Word. Pray without ceasing. Seek His face when the battle is overwhelming. Our Great Comforter is always there. Willing and ready to comfort and protect and lead His own is the battle we call life.
Remember to give Him thanks for all and to praise Him name continuously!!!

Morning Devotional November 12, 2017

Acts 20:7
And upon the first day of the week, when the disciples came together to break bread, Paul preached unto them, ready to depart on the morrow; and continued his speech until midnight.”

O how wonderful it must have been to hear the Apostle Paul preach! What did Paul have to say in his sermons that would cause the people to be willing to listen till midnight? Or were they willing to stay longer but the Lord took his words from him so that he might rest before his journey the next day? Either way these people were willing to listen.
Where is this willingness today? Why are God's people not willing to sit and hear the preacher preach all night? Does he not preach the same message as Paul? He better be. If not don't waste your time. But if he is, then O what a blessing!!!
We have come to a place in our society today where we have a short attention span and have no respect for the Word of God being preached. Sermons are held to thirty minutes or less in most of the Lord's churches. When a man is given more from the Lord the people grumble and complain. Are they complaining because of what is being preached or is it because they are worried they are going to miss Sunday football or their favorite movie or maybe be late for a meal? So many things interrupt our thoughts during a sermon. No matter if the sermon is good or not. Where are our thoughts? They should be on the Word that is being preached not on what we have planned afterwards.
Go and hear the Word of God preached today. If you are not able to go then listen over the internet or to recordings. Read God's Word for yourself if these others are not available. Pray for God's people today. Pray for His churches. Pray for His ministers that they will preach the truth no matter the cost.

John 15:12-14

12This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.
13Greater love hath no man than this, that a man lay down his life for his friends.
14Ye are my friends, if ye do whatsoever I command you.”

On this day November 11th, 2017 as we honor our military veterans let us not forget the love bestowed upon us by our Lord and Savior. It is this love that commands us to love one another so much that we would give our own life to protect our friends. A love like unto His own for us. Most of our military personnel know when they enlist they are volunteering for a duty which could require them to give their life for the freedoms of their family, friends, and neighbors.
But this love is not just bestowed upon our brothers and sisters in Christ in our military. No. Christ commanded it to His churches. We are to love one another with a love so strong we would do anything we possibly can for a brother or sister in need. Sometimes that is just prayer. Other times, if the Lord has blessed us with money or material things He may put it on our hearts to share our blessings with others who are in need. But then there may come a time where we maybe asked to give the ultimate sacrifice of our own life to defend a brother or sister as in the recent killings we have seen in some churches in the US.
Child of God, how is your love for the brethren? Will you give your all as Christ did? Or are you so self-righteous you care not for your brothers and sisters in Christ? Also remember our love for one another should go deeper than what is seen on the surface. “This is my commandment, That ye love one another, as I have loved you.”

Proverbs 19:5 and 9

5. A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall not escape.”
9. A false witness shall not be unpunished, and he that speaketh lies shall perish.”

A false witness is a very serious matter with our Lord. All through God's Word He warns us and instructs us to always tell the truth in all matters. When we see the word “witness” we normally think of someone who is on trial for a crime and there are those who will be presented before the Judge and Jury as witnesses to what happened or as character witnesses for or against the defendant.
In the courtroom a person is sworn to tell the truth. As God's children we are commanded by our Heavenly Father to tell the truth.
Does God still punish false witnesses today? Well, the verses above have no expiration date as far as I can tell.
As children of God we must not get wrapped up in the false tales and false witness that the world may have against another. If we do not know the truth or what we do know is speculation it is best to remain silent. Fore it is best to remain silent than to suffer at the hand of God for being a false witness.
If the accusations against one are true the Lord will bring it out by His means and with the truth. If others are being false witnesses against you, do not seek retribution on your own. Seek the Lord in the matter. If you are His He will take care of you. Remember we are not exempt from persecutions just because we are children of God. To the contrary. We are even more so for this very reason.
Follow the Lord. Follow His commandments and the example He has set for us in His Word. His ways are good and Holy. Follow Him!!!

Proverbs 8:17

I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.”

O child of God, how is your love for the Lord? Do you love Him enough to follow where Him? Do you love the Lord enough to follow His commandments?
Do you seek the Lord early? Is He in your thoughts when you go to sleep? Are you in constant communion with our Heavenly Father?
If not then why not? What is there about this life and of this world that can keep us from our love for our Lord and Savior? Only the pride of life and the lust of the flesh. Sadly it affects us all.

How precious also are thy thoughts unto me, O God! how great is the sum of them! If I should count them, they are more in number than the sand: when I awake, I am still with thee.”

O how we ought to praise our Lord from our waking to our laying down for all His many blessing!!! What an ungrateful people we are!!! What a shame is our failure to honor and praise the one who gives us the very breath we breathe. Fore without Him we have nothing!!!

Psalm 150
Praise ye the Lord. Praise God in his sanctuary: praise him in the firmament of his power. Praise him for his mighty acts: praise him according to his excellent greatness. Praise him with the sound of the trumpet: praise him with the psaltery and harp. Praise him with the timbrel and dance: praise him with stringed instruments and organs. Praise him upon the loud cymbals: praise him upon the high sounding cymbals. Let every thing that hath breath praise the Lord. Praise ye the Lord.”

O what a glorious day our Lord has given us to praise Him!!!
As we enter into a new week let us rejoice and praise our Heavenly Father for all He has given us. Let us praise Him for the greatest gift ever given. Salvation by His marvelous grace through the faith He instill in us. What a glorious gift!!! What a love like no other!!! Praise God for His Sovereign Grace!!!

2 Corinthians 12:10

Therefore I take pleasure in infirmities, in reproaches, in necessities, in persecutions, in distresses for Christ's sake: for when I am weak, then am I strong.”

Read this verse carefully. Notice Paul says all these things “for Christ's sake”. Today we see many who want to claim the problems in their lives are brought on by their claiming the name of Christ. They fret and worry and wonder why God would allow such to happen to them. No thought at all that God may have them in a trial to strengthen their faith. Or possibly that it may be God's chastisement on His child for failure to follow His commandments.
How often we fail to recognize what God is truly doing with our life. Or is it because we are in self-denial of what He is doing?
Paul says he took pleasure in knowing that the problems in his life were because of his work for Christ's sake. Paul understood that because he was taking a stand for the truth and was following the commandments of our Lord that he would and was suffering these things he lists in this verse. All because of his stand for Christ. Paul also knew that when these things got him down physically that was when the Lord would strengthen him spiritually.
O how we should heed the words of Paul. If we are living according to the ways of our Lord we will suffer for that. This world and the one who is ruling this world me has a deep hatred for the things of God and the people of God. Especially for those who take a stand for the truth and will live their life according to God's Word.
O child of God take pleasure in the persecutions thrown you're way by our great advisory and his followers. Fore they do so because of you're faithfulness to the God of Heaven.
Also take pleasure in that our Heavenly Father sees fit to try our faith at times all for the purpose to strengthen us and to teach us to be better witnesses for Him. And all this is for His honor and glory!!!

Mark 1:35
And in the morning, rising up a great while before day, he went out, and departed into a solitary place, and there prayed.”

O what a great example our Lord set for us in this verse. The first thing on our minds every morning should be communion with our Heavenly Father. The first words on our lips should be a prayer to Him. Thanking and praising Him for all.

Ye have wearied the Lord with your words. Yet ye say, Wherein have we wearied him? When ye say, Every one that doeth evil is good in the sight of the Lord, and he delighteth in them; or, Where is the God of judgment?”

O how we see this in our day! Remember the context of this verse? Who was the Prophet speaking to and of? Was it not God's own people?
O child of God do your words weary the Lord? Are you calling evil good and good evil? Have you fallen in with the lust of the world? Come out from among them! Follow Christ and His commandments!

1 John 5:19

And we know that we are of God, and the whole world lieth in wickedness.”

If we are of God then why are we so quick to follow the world? If the world lieth in wickedness like the Lord tells us then why do we follow the world and not our Lord and Savior?
Yesterday I spoke on the unholy day of Halloween and God's churches seeming so willing to follow after that most evil day/night of the year. But it doesn't stop there. God's people have always followed after the world. The lust of the flesh and the pride of life is a tool used by satan and his fallen angels to ruin the witness for Christ in many a child of God. And it seems God's people are so willing to follow.
The temptation is great and when we are to preoccupied with the things of the world to stay in communion with our Heavenly Father we become spiritually weak and tend to follow what seems to be the easy path through life. Satan will use these times to tempt us with what seems to be harmless and innocent idols. Our attention can be drawn by the latest Hollywood movie/TV show or our favorite sports star/team or our children's extracurricular activities or social media. The list is endless.
God told Jeremiah to tell the people in Jerusalem that their spiritual adultery was nothing new. God said it started when their fathers left Egypt. As with God's churches today. We can read in the New Testament where God's first century churches were following the ways of the world in their day. Paul, Peter, James, John and others warned of this. Yet we do exactly as they warned us not to do.
Our Lord made it clear many times in His Word. If we love Him we will follow His commandments. But today we hear preachers tell us that if we follow God's Word for our life we are being legalistic or hard-shell. Some will go as far to say that we have “soul liberty” or because we are saved by God's Grace we are free to do as we please. But what saith the Lord?
Remember God tells us that if we love Him His commandments will not be grievous to us. Another words, if we love Him we will want to follow His commandments. His commandments will become the norm in our life. But only if we love Him.
O child of God, where is you're love for God today? Are you more in love with the world and the idols you have created in this life than you are with you're Lord and Savior? So much more that you find His commandments grievous? Have you found the world easier to follow than Christ? Where is you're witness for the Lord? Follow Him!!! Leave the things of the world and follow Christ!!! Set the example for all those around you.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Ephesians 5:11

And have no fellowship with the unfruitful works of darkness, but rather reprove them.”

In this devotional I will only be speaking of/to those in the Lord's true churches.

Once again we are at the time of year when most of those who claim the name of Christ will leave the Word of God behind and follow the ways of the world. The month of October has become a time of open rebellion by many in the Lord's churches.

Verse after verse can be easily found in God's Word warning His people and particularly His Bride of following after the devil. Yet every year for several generations now we have seen the churches follow the way of the world and the ways of Catholicism. And every year the celebrations become more dark and demented and evil. Many who celebrate this unholy day have not been taught the truth on this. Others have been taught the truth and are in open rebellion against our Lord. They honestly believe it is all for fun or we hear them say “well we do it for the children”. Then there is the age-old answer “We did it when we were children so it can't be all that bad.”

But what saith the Lord? Everything we do we are to prove by His Word are we not? The Word of God is to be the final authority on what we say and do. So why do so many rebel when it comes to the spiritually darkest time of the year? Why are so many of the Lord's Pastors refusing to preach the truth on this matter?

I know some who honestly think they can delve in darkness for a short time and come out unscathed and somehow have their faith strengthened because of it. And there are even some who think they can play the game and be a good “witness for Christ” while if they were to admit the truth they are really just rebelling against our Lord because they seek the lust of the flesh.

God wrote much about witches and wizards and evil spirits in His Word. Every time He warned His people to stay away from them and not to follow after them. Yet today whole congregations celebrate the most holy day of the year for the darkness of this world.

Jeremiah 5:31 “The prophets prophesy falsely, and the priests bear rule by their means; and my people love to have it so: and what will ye do in the end thereof?”

James 2:14-26

14What doth it profit, my brethren, though a man say he hath faith, and have not works? can faith save him?

15If a brother or sister be naked, and destitute of daily food,

16And one of you say unto them, Depart in peace, be ye warmed and filled; notwithstanding ye give them not those things which are needful to the body; what doth it profit?

17Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.

18Yea, a man may say, Thou hast faith, and I have works: shew me thy faith without thy works, and I will shew thee my faith by my works.

19Thou believest that there is one God; thou doest well: the devils also believe, and tremble.

20But wilt thou know, O vain man, that faith without works is dead?

21Was not Abraham our father justified by works, when he had offered Isaac his son upon the altar?

22Seest thou how faith wrought with his works, and by works was faith made perfect?

23And the scripture was fulfilled which saith, Abraham believed God, and it was imputed unto him for righteousness: and he was called the Friend of God.

24Ye see then how that by works a man is justified, and not by faith only.

25Likewise also was not Rahab the harlot justified by works, when she had received the messengers, and had sent them out another way?

26For as the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without works is dead also.”

We hear many today quote this passage as a reminder to help the poor in our communities and around the world. But have you noticed James says in verse 15 “brother or sister”? Are we not to help our brothers and sisters in Christ before helping those in the world? Are we not to take care of the saints of God when they are in need rather than the children of the devil? Would this not be a great witness and testimony to the lost of how the saints in the Lord's churches take care of one another as though they were blood kin. Even closer than blood kin. They are our family for all eternity!

Please understand I am not saying we should not help others. But I believe the Word of God is clear here and in other places that God's people are to help each other in their time of need before helping the world. It is a way for the world to see our love for one another. It should be a draw for them to want to be like us and a part of us. It should cause them to ask why we do these things for our brothers and sisters. Which should lead us to show them the gospel of Christ through our love for our brethren.

O but are we too busy arguing and fighting amongst ourselves for the world to see the love of Christ in His churches? What example are we setting for those young Christians growing in the faith? Instead of following the truths of God's Word are we fighting to have things our own way? Do we refuse to submit to our Sovereign God and follow His commandments?

O child of God, if you love the Lord as you claim follow His commandments. Love one another. Show the world(without bragging) your love for your brothers and sisters in Christ. If a brother or sister is in need and God has blessed you with the means to help then do so.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Romans 12:3-21

3For I say, through the grace given unto me, to every man that is among you, not to think of himself more highly than he ought to think; but to think soberly, according as God hath dealt to every man the measure of faith.
4For as we have many members in one body, and all members have not the same office:
5So we, being many, are one body in Christ, and every one members one of another.
6Having then gifts differing according to the grace that is given to us, whether prophecy, let us prophesy according to the proportion of faith;
7Or ministry, let us wait on our ministering: or he that teacheth, on teaching;
8Or he that exhorteth, on exhortation: he that giveth, let him do it with simplicity; he that ruleth, with diligence; he that sheweth mercy, with cheerfulness.
9Let love be without dissimulation. Abhor that which is evil; cleave to that which is good.
10Be kindly affectioned one to another with brotherly love; in honour preferring one another;
11Not slothful in business; fervent in spirit; serving the Lord;
12Rejoicing in hope; patient in tribulation; continuing instant in prayer;
13Distributing to the necessity of saints; given to hospitality.
14Bless them which persecute you: bless, and curse not.
15Rejoice with them that do rejoice, and weep with them that weep.
16Be of the same mind one toward another. Mind not high things, but condescend to men of low estate. Be not wise in your own conceits.
17Recompense to no man evil for evil. Provide things honest in the sight of all men.
18If it be possible, as much as lieth in you, live peaceably with all men.
19Dearly beloved, avenge not yourselves, but rather give place unto wrath: for it is written, Vengeance is mine; I will repay, saith the Lord.
20Therefore if thine enemy hunger, feed him; if he thirst, give him drink: for in so doing thou shalt heap coals of fire on his head.
21Be not overcome of evil, but overcome evil with good.”

Some very wise instruction for the Lord's churches.

Galatians 1:1-5

1Paul, an apostle, (not of men, neither by man, but by Jesus Christ, and God the Father, who raised him from the dead;)
2And all the brethren which are with me, unto the churches of Galatia:
3Grace be to you and peace from God the Father, and from our Lord Jesus Christ,
4Who gave himself for our sins, that he might deliver us from this present evil world, according to the will of God and our Father:
5To whom be glory for ever and ever. Amen.”

Most of the Apostle Paul's letters that are recorded in God's Word were written to specific churches. As Paul would hear news from the churches he had helped found or had confirmed the founding of in his journeys often times the news was of how the Lord's churches were falling from the truth and were being lead astray by some false doctrine or false teacher. With the authority given him by his sending church in Antioch and by the authority given him by the Lord as an Apostle, Paul wrote letters to these churches teaching them and correcting them in the error of their ways and commending them for their stand for the truth.
These letters were addressing the issues of the day in individual churches. These letters were not sent out to all the saved but were sent for the churches. Paul makes that clear in his writings. Are these letters for us today? Sure they are. For the Lord's churches today these letters are examples and lessons for us to follow and to learn from. Most everything a church needs to know about how to operate, discipline, the ordinances, teaching, etc. are contained in these letters from Paul.
Nowhere does Paul address his letters to the saved in general. At the beginning of each letter, he addresses the letter to the church or churches in a certain town or area or country. In Colossians 4:16 Paul tells the church in Colosse that when they are done reading the letter they are to pass it to the church of the Laodiceans and the church in Colosse is to read the letter he wrote to the Laodicean church. So the churches were to pass these letters around to the other churches. These letters were included in the final draft of the Bible for the purpose of teaching the Lord's churches. This teaching we are hearing today that Paul's epistles are for all of God's people is a false doctrine. Everything Paul addresses in his letters, everything God gave him to write, was written to edify and strengthen the churches. They were never intended for anyone else. These teachings and corrections Paul wrote of could only be implemented in the Lord's churches.
Can those who are not part of the Bride of Christ gain from these letters? Certainly they can. For one, it should be an encouragement to them to search out and find one of the Lord's congregations and seek to join themselves to that congregation. God's Word can also show them what not to seek in church membership.
As you read through the Word of God, please, remember to read it in it's context. Notice and remember to whom it is written. The Word of God is from the Bride-Groom to His Bride. The teachings and corrections written by Paul and others were/are for the Lord's Bride. Remember Ephesians 5:25-27. The Bride-Groom is preparing His Bride for Himself by His Word.

Proverbs 22:20-21

Have not I written to thee excellent things in counsels and knowledge, That I might make thee know the certainty of the words of truth; that thou mightest answer the words of truth to them that send unto thee?”

Praise God He gave us His Word!!! Without Him we have no understanding, no knowledge of the truth of His Word. O how men have tried to distort the Word of God over the centuries. Many so called versions and commentaries have been written. Most are nothing but the corrupt thoughts of man.
O child of God, study to shew thyself approved unto God. Read and listen to the words of our Lord. O how the love of God for His people is shown so clearly in His Word. If only we will take the time to read and study and listen.

1 Corinthians 2:14
But the natural man receiveth not the things of the Spirit of God: for they are foolishness unto him: neither can he know them, because they are spiritually discerned.”

Without the indwelling of the Holy Spirit of God no man can know God nor the things of God. Without the Holy Spirit of God man will not understand the Word of God. He may read it and think it a good history lesson or a good lesson on morality or a good collection of stories. Man can read of the love of the Lord. But he can never understand or know the love the Lord has for His people. Nor does this man have a desire to know this love.
It is only by the coming of the Holy Spirit and the Holy Spirit pricking the heart and convicting the heart of the man, regenerating the soul of the man, will the man have a desire to seek the love of God. It is the Holy Spirit that opens the understanding of these things to man. It is only the Holy Spirit that opens the spiritual eyes of man and causes him to see and know the love of our Heavenly Father. It is the Holy Spirit that causes man to repent and to beg for mercy from God. It is the Holy Spirit that gives the faith necessary for the man to believe on the Lord Jesus Christ. And it is this same Holy Spirit that gives the man the desire for membership in one of the Lord's churches through baptism in water.
O praise God for His Holy Spirit that comes and indwells in us!!! O where would we be if He did not?
O child of God, seek the leadership of the Holy Spirit. Follow when He says go. Wait when He says wait. But remember to test the spirits. Look to God's Word and make sure it is the Holy Spirit that is speaking. Pray without ceasing. In all things give thanks.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Morning Devotional September 13, 2017

Galatians 3:3
Are ye so foolish? having begun in the Spirit, are ye now made perfect by the flesh?”

We see so many of God's people today who are following the flesh and not the Spirit. The old adage “if it feels good, do it” has been taken to heart by many a child of God. This very teaching has crept into the Lord's churches and has polluted the very doctrines they used to hold dear.
The followers of this seem to be, at first, sincere in their actions and words and at times can bring a very compelling argument for their way of thinking. But, if, we will go to God's Word and search the scriptures on these matters, we can quickly see the error of their ways.
Most have, in their own minds, admirable intentions for church growth and reaching the lost with the gospel. But what does God say on these things? Did not Paul write that it is God who will give the increase? I Corinthians 3:6-7. As pro-claimers of the gospel, all we can do is plant and water. But only God can save the lost soul. Only God can bring His own to Himself. Only God gives the increase. And God has given instruction on how this is to be done. He has given us instructions on how to sow the seed and to water the plants and what to do when the harvest time has come. Yet we as sinful men think our way is better.
A great example is the life of a farmer. This is the example the Lord uses over and over in His Word. A farmer prepares the ground. He plants the seed. He waters when it is time. Then the rest is waiting on the Lord to grow the plants and to provide the increase of the harvest. The Lord has given the farmer the know how to know when to prepare the ground, to plant the seed, and to water. But after that, every farmer knows there is absolutely nothing he can do till the harvest is ready. He can fertilize, he can remove the weeds, and he can continue to water when needed. But it is only God who has determined if any or all of this will produce. Sometimes God sends a storm and destroys the crop before the harvest. Sometimes He sends insects or a fungus. But even all this is in God's hands and is His will and none of the farmers.
So, are we so foolish that we think we can change the mind of God? Are we so foolish that we think His will is based on our wants? Are we following God's Holy Spirit or are we following our flesh? If we follow Him He will make our wants coincide with His will.

Praise ye the Lord!!!

Psalm 107:23-32
23They that go down to the sea in ships, that do business in great waters;
24These see the works of the Lord, and his wonders in the deep.
25For he commandeth, and raiseth the stormy wind, which lifteth up the waves thereof.
26They mount up to the heaven, they go down again to the depths: their soul is melted because of trouble.
27They reel to and fro, and stagger like a drunken man, and are at their wit's end.
28Then they cry unto the Lord in their trouble, and he bringeth them out of their distresses.
29He maketh the storm a calm, so that the waves thereof are still.
30Then are they glad because they be quiet; so he bringeth them unto their desired haven.
31Oh that men would praise the Lord for his goodness, and for his wonderful works to the children of men!
32Let them exalt him also in the congregation of the people, and praise him in the assembly of the elders.”

Whatever the storm we go through, praise the Lord!!! At the beginning of the storm, in the middle of the storm, and when the storm is over. Praise the Lord!!! As God's children, brothers and sisters in Christ, we should be praying for each other when we see another in distress or in a storm. Pray especially for our brothers and sisters who have been through or are going through the stormy weather in different parts of the world of late. Those we know who are struggling with personal storms. Never forget to pray for those. Be a blessing to our brothers and sisters and let them know you pray for them when the Lord gives opportunity for you to do so.

Ephesians 6:10-17

10Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord, and in the power of his might.
11Put on the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to stand against the wiles of the devil.
12For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.
13Wherefore take unto you the whole armour of God, that ye may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand.
14Stand therefore, having your loins girt about with truth, and having on the breastplate of righteousness;
15And your feet shod with the preparation of the gospel of peace;
16Above all, taking the shield of faith, wherewith ye shall be able to quench all the fiery darts of the wicked.
17And take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God:”

O that we as God's children would come to understand the seriousness of these verses. So many pastors and teachers have ill-equipped God's people for the battles we see being fought everyday. Totally ignoring the fact that we are in a spiritual battle.
God plainly gives us the weapons to fight. For defense and for offense in this great war.
Study to shew thyself approved. Pray without ceasing. Resist the wiles of the devil. Forsake the lust of the flesh and the lust of this old sinful world.

James 3:13-18

Who is a wise man and endued with knowledge among you? let him shew out of a good conversation his works with meekness of wisdom. But if ye have bitter envying and strife in your hearts, glory not, and lie not against the truth. This wisdom descendeth not from above, but is earthly, sensual, devilish. For where envying and strife is, there is confusion and every evil work. But the wisdom that is from above is first pure, then peaceable, gentle, and easy to be intreated, full of mercy and good fruits, without partiality, and without hypocrisy. And the fruit of righteousness is sown in peace of them that make peace.”

For this cause I bow my knees unto the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, Of whom the whole family in heaven and earth is named, That he would grant you, according to the riches of his glory, to be strengthened with might by his Spirit in the inner man; That Christ may dwell in your hearts by faith; that ye, being rooted and grounded in love, May be able to comprehend with all saints what is the breadth, and length, and depth, and height; And to know the love of Christ, which passeth knowledge, that ye might be filled with all the fulness of God. Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him be glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Psalm 66:1-2

Make a joyful noise unto God, all ye lands: Sing forth the honour of his name: make his praise glorious.”

O what a blessing our God has given us with the songs and hymns and psalms that have been written over the many generations that bring honor and glory to Him. What a joy it is when we are alone with Him and He brings a tune and/or the words to our mind and we sing out in praise to our Heavenly Father. In many places in the God's Word He instructs us to praise Him with singing.
Yet sin filled men have taken advantage of the praises of God and have written words and tunes that are ungodly and dishonor our Lord and Savior. Many of our church hymnals contain words that bring more honor to men or to objects than they do to God. Many have made a business out of praising God. The “Gospel” music industry is full of people who follow the money rather than the Lord. Entertainers who would rather draw a large crowd than sing praises of truth. They put on a good show with the talents God has given them. All in the name of entertainment. Blaspheming the God they claim to be praising.
Please don't misunderstand. There are those out there who do truly sing to honor our Lord. But they are rare.
Child of God, praise the Lord by singing praises to Him!!! Study the words to the songs. Find songs and music that is honoring to our Heavenly Father. Forsake those who would lead us astray with popular tunes and words that sound pretty but are not scriptural. O how important it is to praise our Lord and Saviour in truth!!!
Sing O sing of my Redeemer and His wondrous love for me”.

Psalm 16:1
Preserve me, O God: for in thee do I put my trust.”

O child of God, where is our trust today? Is it in this sin filled life? Is it in your job? Do you trust in a politician? Or maybe a doctor? Or how about a preacher?
While God can and does use these for good at times, they are not God. They are vessels used by God for our good and for His glory. By putting our faith and trust in man or the things of this life we deny our Lord and Savior the glory only He is worthy of.
So who do we trust? Pray God will preserve you. Pray God will strengthen the faith He has given you. Study His Word. Pray without ceasing. Commune with our Heavenly Father constantly and seek His face and favor in all that we do.
When times are good, praise Him!!! When times are not so good, praise Him even more!!!

Psalm 139:23-24

Search me, O God, and know my heart: try me, and know my thoughts: And see if there be any wicked way in me, and lead me in the way everlasting.”

O how we ought to make this our prayer every morning and evening! Yet, I wonder how many of us are afraid for God to show us the evil of our ways? Are we to ashamed to pray this? Are our sins so great that we would try to hide them from our Heavenly Father? Have we forgotten He knows all? Even our deepest, darkest secrets?
O child of God, seek the Lord in all things. Pray He keeps us in the fold and protects us from the wiles of the devil. Stray not from the path He has given you to follow. Follow our Lord. Look to Him and only to Him for guidance.
Flee the lust of this world and seek the ways of the Lord. For only in the Lord will we find peace and joy in this life.

Psalm 43:5
Why art thou cast down, O my soul? and why art thou disquieted within me? hope in God: for I shall yet praise him, who is the health of my countenance, and my God.”

O child of God, why do we worry and fret so much in this life? Why do we allow the things we see and hear in this old sinful world get us down and at times trod us into the ground? Where is our hope today? Our hope, our true hope is in the Lord our God!!!
Yet we so often times and many often many times a day put our hope in the things of this life and of this world. We become disconnected with our Heavenly Father because of our sin of worry and concern for things that only cause us to drift from the one who gives us true hope. Remember, He promised to never leave us, it is us who stray from Him.
As the verse above says “I shall yet praise him” so I encourage all of us. Praise Him!!! Praise Him!!! When the tempest toss and and all seems loss in this life, praise Him!!! When we are at our lowest point and there seems no way out, praise Him!!! When He sends blessings and life seems so grand, praise Him!!! Praise Him without ceasing!!!
O that we all as His children would come to the knowledge and understanding of how important praising our Lord is to our spiritual well being. O that we would love Him so that His commandments are not grievous to us. O that our witness to those around us would be glorifying to our Lord and Savior.

John 21:15-17

15So when they had dined, Jesus saith to Simon Peter, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me more than these? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my lambs.
16He saith to him again the second time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? He saith unto him, Yea, Lord; thou knowest that I love thee. He saith unto him, Feed my sheep.
17He saith unto him the third time, Simon, son of Jonas, lovest thou me? Peter was grieved because he said unto him the third time, Lovest thou me? And he said unto him, Lord, thou knowest all things; thou knowest that I love thee. Jesus saith unto him, Feed my sheep.”

Pastors, are you feeding the Lord's sheep today? Will you stand and proclaim the Word of God to the people our Lord has entrusted to your care? Will you remind the Lord's people of His commandments and the consequences of not following those commandments?
II Timothy 4:2 “Preach the word; be instant in season, out of season; reprove, rebuke, exhort with all long suffering and doctrine.”
Child of God, will you go where the truth is taught? Will you make the extra effort even when there is no true church in your town or area? Or will you give in to the ways of the world? Will you flock to the first building you see that has the word church in the name? Will you follow the entertainment crowd?
Church members, are you faithful with your attendance? What about your tithe and offering? Does your pastor know how much he is appreciated he is by the people God has given to his care? Or are you a backslider? A trouble maker in the church? Are you one who is constantly trying to undermine the pastor and elders because they preached on your pet sin?
Pastors have an awesome responsibility. They have been entrusted with the care of the Lord's local flock. Yet so many pastors never understand the full importance of their position and therefore never take their position seriously. While parishioners sit back and laugh and the mistakes they see in their pastor and ridicule him for the doctrines he teaches from God's Word that they disagree with.
We have a people today in the Lord's churches that prone to follow the lust of the world before they will follow the commandments of God. Many a pastor has been silenced from teaching the whole council of God because he is afraid of the people. Many a church member have over stepped their bonds and taken the leadership of the pastor and made it a mockery.
Many of the Lord's churches are entrenched with the world and have no desire to follow God. They follow the “IN” crowd. The crowd of spoiled brats that our forefathers warned about. Like the Israel and Judah in the book of Jeremiah, they have committed spiritual adultery with the religions of the world. They have bowed down to Baal during the week and on Sunday claim to come to worship the Lord. Is God hearing their prayers? Will He listen to a people who have left their first love?
O pastors, I encourage you to stand firm. Preach the Word in all boldness. When the people seem to not listen or refuse to hear, preach the Word of the Lord anyway!
O Christian, if you are not in a church that preaches the truth, leave now and find one that does! Flee all teachers of false doctrine. No church close by? How far are you willing to drive? Is driving a distance not an option? Pray the Lord makes a way.
O church members, support your pastor! Let him know how appreciative you are for him. If you have a disagreement with something he is teaching, go to him, but be ready to present scripture for what you believe is true. If you have no scripture maybe you should consider that he is right and you are wrong. Study these matters before you complain.

2 Peter 2:1-3

But there were false prophets also among the people, even as there shall be false teachers among you, who privily shall bring in damnable heresies, even denying the Lord that bought them, and bring upon themselves swift destruction. And many shall follow their pernicious ways; by reason of whom the way of truth shall be evil spoken of. And through covetousness shall they with feigned words make merchandise of you: whose judgment now of a long time lingereth not, and their damnation slumbereth not.”

O how we have to be careful today. Many false prophets and wolves in sheep's clothing are about to destroy the Lord's churches.
God's Word is clear. There is only one gospel. The gospel taught to us in His Word. No other gospel, no matter how good it sounds, will do. Salvation by the His free gift of grace through the faith He has given us in Him. Praying a sinners prayer at an “old fashion alter” will not do. Works by the hands of ones self will never amount to anything. Our salvation and our life after salvation must be all of God or it is nothing!!!
This doctrine of works by man and this doctrine of man pulling himself up by his own boot straps is satanic. The very doctrines that satan believes can put him on the same plain as his creator. What a shame that God's people and our Lord's churches would fall for such a false teaching.
Those that are teaching these things are only out for self gratification. The numbers of church members and money in the church coffers and their own pockets is the lust that drive such false teachings.
O child of God, follow not after the doctrines of devils. Look to Christ and His commandments. Follow God's Word!!! Try the spirits. Study to shew thyself approved unto God.

Morning Devotional August 11, 2017

James 4:13-17

“Go to now, ye that say, To day or to morrow we will go into such a city, and continue there a year, and buy and sell, and get gain: Whereas ye know not what shall be on the morrow. For what is your life? It is even a vapour, that appeareth for a little time, and then vanisheth away. For that ye ought to say, If the Lord will, we shall live, and do this, or that. But now ye rejoice in your boastings: all such rejoicing is evil. Therefore to him that knoweth to do good, and doeth it not, to him it is sin.”
