Jeremiah 18:12
“And they said, There is no hope: but we will walk after our
own devices, and we will every one do the imagination of his evil heart.”
In our world today we see the kind of talk all around us. As
God's children we have come to expect this sort of thing from those who have no
love for our Lord. This ole world is a very rotten place and full of spiritual
death. And our Lord told us in His Word that it would be so.
But, read in it's context, we see God is telling Jeremiah what
to preach to the people of Judah and particularity the people of Jerusalem. In
the book of Jeremiah we see where God gave sermon after sermon for Jeremiah to
preach to the people. And not just any people. Read the story. God refers to
them as His people. The nation of Israel as a whole had forsaken God and were
following after false gods. In God's temple in Jerusalem they would worship God
on the Sabbath but the rest of the week they were worshiping false gods upon
God's alter. We also see that the priest allowed this and even promoted this
false worship. Another words, the priest were giving the people what they
wanted to hear and not the truth of God's Word. Sound familiar?
Do we not see the same things going on with God's people
today? As many times as God gave examples of what not to do and what would
happen if we did, His people still follow the false religions of the world.
In Jeremiah we see that even as wicked as the nation had
turned, God still had His remnant. Those small groups of people scattered
throughout the land who still followed the Lord and shunned the was of the rest
of the nation. As the members of the Lord's true churches, we are to be
separate from the world. Yes we have to live in the world and even have to deal
with the rest of the world. But we are not to be like them. What a sad thing to
see one of the Lord's churches make the move to look like the churches of man.
When the members try to worship God on the Lord's Day but follow the world the
rest of the week.
Child of God, follow Christ. Pastors/Elders, follow Christ.
Forsake the teachings and the lust of the world and follow Christ. Only His way
is the right way.
Praise ye the Lord!!!
